About Roger ~ 8yr Old Blue Heeler(On Trial 12/06/21)
Do you want a new companion? can I be it? My name is Roger and I’m an 8 year old Blue Heeler, who’s looking for my new family. Ideally, I would love someone home with me most of the time, or another friendly companion.
Unfortunately, I’ve had a rough start to life. I came into care very scared, overweight and suffering from conjunctivitis. My foster family have helped me so much already and I would love a new family who is as caring and understanding of my needs. I’m down to 30kgs and the vet says I only need to lose another 3 to be at a healthy weight. My eyes are clear and healthy now and I’m getting more and more confident every day.
I never got taken out on adventures in my old home, so I’m still nervous in new settings. I need someone understanding of this, who’s comforting and patient, who won’t be upset at taking things slow. When walking by myself I can be very timid and unsure, having a friendly confident dog along with me, gives me confidence. I don’t pull on the lead, but if you’re not careful I might trip you, trying to walk too close to you. Being an older gentleman, I don’t require a lot of exercise. I’m scared of the hose and my foster family thinks I might have been sprayed as punishment, because I’m not a fan of baths. My friends at Animal house dip and clip have been gaining my trust and are great at washing me, when I need it.
Being 56 years old (in dog years) I feel like I would make a great companion for someone of a similar age. I would love to hang out and read the newspaper with you while we sit and watch the world go by. Being a quiet man, I enjoy the quiet life, a calm environment would be preferred so we can relax together. Occasionally I get a small burst of energy and love to play a few rounds of fetch in the back yard. I’ll return it to you, when I’m ready to chase it again, but I usually entertain myself chewing on it more often than not. I also enjoy soft toys, my current favourite being a blue elephant that carry with me.
My new family will let me continue to have inside access and to be a part of the family. I’m house trained and have never had an accident inside. I enjoy sleeping inside on my bed in winter, but another in a sheltered area outside would be most appreciated. I have very good manners and don’t jump up on the couch, its also very rare for me to jump up on people. I’ve been tested with cats and rabbits and got along well with them. While I don’t live with children, I’ve gotten along well with the ones I’ve met. Although older children preferred as their less likely to scare me.
Due to my timid nature, I would require a slow adoption and time to get to know you well before coming to live with you full time. I can guarantee that it will be worth the effort, and once you’ve gained my trust, I will be the most loving, dedicated and loyal member of your family.
