About Butch
Butch is a 12 year old talkative adventurer who is seeking his new forever home. Butch is seeking a home where he is an active participant and included on outings and given lots of attention and love.
Butch loves going for long walks and walks well with a harness and lead, he can be reactive to dogs that approach him outside so he will need an experienced owner that can support him to become less reactive if approached an avoid confronting situations.
Butch has a healthy appetite and is getting used to home cooked meals. Butch loves his snacks and treats however he needs to have this in moderation to assist with his weight.
Despite some behavioural issues Butch is human social and loves to chat about his thoughts and feelings, he can get quite excitable when he knows he is going outside or in the car. He is getting used to car travel and has travelled a few hours at a time with no problems.
Butch can be a bit snappy if he is not happy or comfortable in a situation so he needs someone that is confident to manage this behaviour. He will need to know his place in the pack and not be allowed to dominate or think he is the leader. For this reason he will need to be an only dog and be rehomed with a confident experienced owner. Not suitable for a home with children.
Butch is overall healthy however he has required regular Senna Col tablets to aid his bowel movements and does from time to time need his bum cleaned after toileting despite it being trimmed. Patience, understanding and commitment to helping Butch with this is a must for his new owner.
Butch has come from an only dog home and would be best suited to a home with no dogs. He is friendly with other dogs in the home environment (he currently lives with a chihuahua and a corgi) however he does mark his territory when other dogs are around. He is toilet trained however he needs easy access to go outside and may do some spotting ongoing, his new owner will again need to be patient and willing to work with Butch on this behavioural issue if it occurs.
Butch will need regular grooming of his coat, bottom and eye area which is a common requirement in maltese dogs.
