Hi friends, my name is Daisy!
I am a gentle girl who is looking for her new forever home. I would prefer either to be a single dog or have a quiet, friendly dog friend. Those 'in your face' types make me nervous and I deserve to live my life in peace! I enjoy short leashed walks, and my food puzzles and other toys. I am learning basic commands well, and would suit a family who is home part time.
I have a horrific story to tell. You see, my owners one day walked me into a vet clinic, claiming they didn't know what happened to me, and that it had only happened that day... but my body showed a different story. I was 'degloved' from the knee down, had a toe ripped off, and was stripped down to the bone on my foot. The infection and swelling showed that I had lived like this for several days, with no pain relief. I was absolutely terrified, and in shock.
Despite my severe and potentially life-threatening injuries, I was a quiet, calm girl who let the vets check me out. It was clear I would need extensive treatment. My owner surrendered me to the clinic, and they rang Off The Chain K9 Rescue Qld, who came straight to see me. They said 'do whatever it takes' and immediately put me in their name. They bought me a pretty pink collar and name tag, and as they put it on me, I heard the words 'you're part of our pack now'. After 24hrs of fluids, pain relief and antibiotics, I was stable enough for surgery, and my journey of recovery began!
The vet removed all the damaged and infected tissue, stitched it all back together, and saved another toe that was only just there... The work was finicky and took hours, but the vets worked tirelessly to try to save my leg. Another night of fluids, antibiotics and pain relief, and me and my giant leg cast were sent home to my foster carers! I was very nervous to start with...it didn't appear I had ever been inside a house. I didn't understand the floor, or the roof, and every move made me cower. I was still in a bit of discomfort and understandably scared, so my carers took it easy with me. After a few weeks of xrays, consults and testing I have made an astounding recovery, far better than was expected!!
I am now ready to be adopted. I am a gentle giant. We think my injury happened by hanging by my foot from a fence, so a 6ft fence is a must to keep me safe. Apart from that, I show no sign of being scared of storms or fireworks, however cats freak me out. I will shrink and avoid them if they approach, but don't seem to want to harm them. Maybe I've never met any before I was rescued? I get along with all humans well, though I am understandably nervous when meeting strangers. Though 10min of having treats tossed and letting me come to you, and I'll be over that worry and nudging you for more pats!
I love to sunbake, play with my food dispenser, and get belly rubs. I travel great in the car, have learnt basic commands, and am overall just a joy to be around. I would do best in a home where people are home at least half the day, and thrive off consistency. I shouldn't go to dog parks as it may be too rough and tumble for my foot- instead, I enjoy leashed walks, in interesting places, like parks with flower beds or other good sniffs. I am treat orientated, meaning I will grow in confidence and learn new things quickly once I settle in. I get along great with other dogs, as long as they aren't pushy or rude - balanced, calm dogs only please! I would probably do well with another medium or large breed dog to hang out with. I like the company, but am not huge on playing.
If you think you're the one to continue this journey with me, you understand I need patience and love, and you like lap dogs- please apply to meet me!
Medical notes
I had surgery on my left rear leg in January 2021. I have made a great recovery, but will require a less active lifestyle than other dogs my age and breed, as we want to slowly build my muscle and strength up, and not push too hard and destroy my progress! I live a normal life despite what happened to me, and can go on walks and trot around the house yard. I just don't need to be doing any acrobatics, chasing balls or jumping too much. I can get in and out of the car, and up stairs, just fine. I am at a perfect weight at 32kg, so with all large breed dogs, keeping me at a healthy weight is best for me, don't let me get tubby!

If you apply to adopt but require us to hold the pet more than 3 days before meeting, we will ask you for a non-refundable holding deposit of $100. If you are unwilling to put a deposit on the pet, we will continue to advertise and speak with other potential adopters. If you follow through with adoption after your meet, the $100 holding deposit is then subtracted from the outstanding adoption fee, which is to be paid at collection of the pet. Eg if full adoption fee is $450, and you place a $100 holding fee on the animal- the day you collect the pet you will sign an adoption contract and pay the remaining $350 fee.
All animals are adopted out with vaccinations up to date; any vaccinations due from date of adoption are the ethical and financial responsibility of the adopter. During the trial period, should the pet become ill, you must notify OTC, and present it to the OTC-approved vet clinic we direct you to in your area. OTC will cover any treatment needed at our authorised clinics.
