Guesty is a gorgeous dog that loves to be loved. Guesty is looking for a home that will provide him with firm positive training and reinforcement, plenty of patience and the experienced in dog ownership. Guesty must be an only dog to begin with and he will require ALL your time in the first few days.
Please, look past his good looks and have a very serious think if you have the time to help this guys settle in. Guesty is still a young dog, he will start to mature and will need strong boundaries and an experienced handler to be the best dog he can be.
What to expect in your first week with Guesty in residence:
• Everything at eye level not nailed down to be brought to you to inspect.
• Some nervous barking and whining
• Attempts to houdini out of the yard if you are not in it with him
• A giant nervous shadow.
• Bursts of excited play
If you can provide him time and reminders about what is ok and not ok you will get along fine. Once he has settled into a routine and is a bit more trusting of his new environment and people you will have the best dog! Guesty is a sweetheart once you get over his initial settling period. He likes to be included in your day to day and will happily nap as you work, he will be your happy shadow as you go about your day.
Guesty has been left at home without incident and is fine to be alone for a couple of hours but he does prefer to be around you. Guesty is crate trained and sleeps in his crate each night, we have not used the crate during the day, if we need to go out we put him in the backyard with toys and chew treats. He has a little sook when you put him out but quietens quicly.
Guesty loves nothing more than being near you. He still behaves like a puppy and requires you to be on the ball. He likes to push boundaries and will generally stop being cheeky when you ask him. But beware - this good behaviour could last for one minute or one hour. He has not been destructive in any way, he just likes to pick things up and bring them to you - knitting wool, couch cushions, the jumper you left on the back of the couch. Nothing has been destroyed, he brings it to show that you left it out and within his reach.
Guesty loves treats! Pigs ears and other chew snacks are his favourite things, he can be patted while gnawing on his treats. He has the most loveable, trusting nature and will be a perfect family companion.
Guesty walks well on a lead with a halti, this guy is a bit headstrong and we would recommend continuing with the halti until he has further training and understanding that he can’t just take off when on the lead. He can pull a little bit at the start of the walk, then he settles into a lovely swagger. Guesty is unsure around other dogs and tends to bark and pull on the lead when they are around. It is for this reason that he needs to be solo in his new home.
