About August
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE.
August is being fostered in Perth.
NAME: August aka 'Gus'
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Was adopted out by SAFE Esperance as a young pup and has been returned due to a change in circumstances.
BREED: Terrier x American Staffordshire Terrier
BREED TRAITS: Terriers come in all shapes and sizes and were bred mainly for farm work or ratting. Today they are mainly companions. Generally high energy, very bright and quick to learn but can be stubborn. They have strong personalities and a sense of fun and want to be included in everything you do. Don't take on a terrier unless you really do want a constant companion.
American Staffordshire Terriers are quite high energy, playful, affectionate and intelligent but require training as they can be headstrong. They are very social with adults and children and are extremely loyal but can suffer from separation anxiety if left for long periods. Their sociability with dogs is a facet that needs continuous work from an early age.
ASSETS: Gus is an absolute darling! Affectionate, devoted, eager to please, friendly, sensitive, active, sweet and playful!
FAVOURITE THINGS: Cuddles! He loves to be near his person receiving all the attention and cuddles he can get and can worry if he doesn't know where you are in the house. He loves his walks and travels well in the car. He likes to have a sniff in the garden and on his walks and enjoys playing fetch and tug of war. He has multiple balls as he likes chasing lots of them at the same time!
ENDEARING FEATURES: Gus is a very loyal boy with a ton of love to give to his person. He's always happy to see you and will do funny somersaults when he's told to go onto his bed and he doesn't want to.
OTHER ANIMALS: He can be a little nervous when unfamiliar dogs approach him but if he's encouraged to sit and they are allowed to get used to each other calmly he warms to them quickly. He gets excited when he sees other animals but is fine if he's told to sit and be calm. He could probably live with a dog-savvy cat after very gentle introduction.
GENERAL INFO: Gus is good on the lead but will pull if walking with another dog so this will still need work. He is housetrained and will bark when someone is at the door. His command training is coming along nicely but will need further work. He isn't a fan of being left alone so will need an owner who is there with him more often than not and doesn't leave him for long periods.
ESSENTIALS:
- A home where Gus has company for more of the day than not and isn't left for long periods on his own
- Gus needs two walks a day as he is quite high energy and being a pup needs to run off steam
- Gus needs to continue with training classes where he can socialize and learn new things in a safe and controlled environment.
- A good-sized, well fenced, secure yard with some grass and interesting things for Gus to sniff and explore
- To be allowed to be inside or out as he chooses, to sleep inside at night and to be included as part of the family.
- Gus would go well with dog-savvy, gentle children over 6 years old and could live with a youngish doggy friend, after gentle introduction.
If Gus sounds like the perfect boy for you, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
