About Hamish
The handsome young Hamish is an athletic and loyal companion who just wants to be with his humans 24/7. He is a cuddly ball of love and energy with a passion for adventure. This young man will follow his humans to the ends of the Earth experiencing every adventure along the way. Hamish loves to shadow his humans through their day to day lives just to be close to them and be part of whatever they are doing. Whether the activity is going for a walk, swimming, driving in the car, going to the beach or going to the local park, Hamish will gladly give any activity a go as long as his humans are by his side. He adores playing with his toys in the backyard and burning off his excess energy. Hamish loves playing with children and other dogs, being quite the friendly social butterfly. Nothing delights him more than the occasional tasty bone or two for him to chew on!
With his wondrously social nature, Hamish understandably doesn’t like being left on his own and hates when he is not allowed to be inside with his humans. He is very active, mentally and physically so lack of stimulation to keep him busy leaves him to get into all sorts of trouble, this includes being in small cramped spaces where he cannot explore his environment. Poor Hamish has had a rough start to life and so negative reinforcement, plastic bags and threats leave him feeling vulnerable and scared.
Hamish is a fast learner who loves his training and is willing to learn a few tricks as he is eager to please. He is a very intelligent dog who will benefit from learning new skills as a way to stimulate his active mind. However, while he loves learning new things, he has a short attention span and will become easily distracted so he will need someone who will dedicate time and understanding to furthering his training. Hamish is currently still learning that it is ok to toilet on the grass and learning important social skills such as sharing toys, waiting his turn and not pushing for attention. He is working on these skills with his foster carers and will need to continue practising these.
Hamish would benefit greatly from having another dog with him to help him cope when his humans have to leave home (as this is inevitably the case sometimes), but he will not be suited to a home where his humans have to be at work/school all day. The more time he has with his humans, the more well behaved this beautiful boy is. He will not not be ok in a household where he is an outside dog as he needs to be with his humans as much as possible. Hamish will benefit the most if his canine brother/sister is older than him, energetic enough to run and play with him, mature enough to put him in his place when he gets too boisterous, be patient and be passive enough to understand that he is still learning and not to get too aggressive towards him.
Adoption details
MEET & GREET
We encourage all adopters to meet their new addition before committing to adoption. This gives you a chance to see if the animal might be a good fit, and if a dog, to also introduce them to your other animals. Just like we don't expect all humans to get along, we expect the same for animals.
ADOPTION AGREEMENT
At CQASI our animals future is paramount and we want to see them put into their forever homes. Every detail on our agreement is used to ensure your home is suitable for a new addition, that you agree to the terms and conditions and we also use some of the info for owner transfer after the adoption trial period (mentioned further down)
HOME/YARD CHECK
All our cats are indoor/outdoor enclosure only so all house checks are done when your feline friend is being dropped off to join your household. If the barking variety is what you are looking at adding to your home then one of our volunteers will contact you to arrange a day/time for a yard check. This is to check your fencing is suitable, see where your new canine will be sleeping and just get a general feel for the home they will be going to. All our adoptions tend to be local, but we have connections all over QLD so are more than happy to consider all serious adoption enquiries. A house/yard check will be done if we can get a local member (if adoption enquiry is not Rockhampton based) to assist.
ADOPTION FEE
Adoption fee is to be paid prior to collecting your new family member. The adoption fee is used to cover the vet work your new addition received. This includes - but is not limited to Desexing, vaccination/s, microchipping, parasite treatment/prevention (heart worm testing for dogs only).
TWO WEEK TRIAL
All our animals have a two week trial period. This gives your new addition time to settle into your family life and to give you a chance to ensure they are exactly what you want. If they are not settling in then we will arrange to take them back into care and you will be refunded the adoption fee. If after the two weeks they are exactly what you wanted then we will send you all their paperwork including sterilisation certificate, vaccination certificate and microchip transfer form.
Our aim is a beautiful goodbye into their new home. We treat any potential adoption with the upmost care as the animals safety and welfare is our number one concern.
