About Shep
Shep's favourite thing is being with his people so he will be looking for a home where someone is home a lot. He must to be allowed to spend a lot of time inside with his family and needs to be able to sleep indoors.
He enjoys playing with other dogs and would enjoy a home with a suitable desexed, playful female dog companion. He will need a decent size yard with secure fencing.
WALKING- he walks well on a lead, he does tend to pull the first 5 minutes because he gets so excited but he eases up after that, if on a busy road sometimes he gets timid with the big trucks going past so I always make sure to hold him tightly cause he will pull back. He needs ongoing, slow introductions to these type of new things. He's overall very easy.
CAR- he doesn't enjoy car rides and he gets very anxious so patience will get needed. The last few times I've been giving him chicken and putting his bed in there so he has some comfort and he actually slowly got in by himself, he drools A LOT. Extra care needs to be taken when letting him out of the car or he will jump out of the car and will try to run from it. He isn't suited to regular car trips at this stage.
BASIC COMANDS- knows how to sit and shake, loves to chase a ball but bad at giving it back. His recall isn't too bad but he definitely gets excited by his surroundings and there has been more than a few times that when I call him it takes him a while to come back. Ongoing training will be needed to improve his recall.
OTHER DOGS- he has met countless dogs, he has overall interacted very well with them, if a dog isn't interested in playing he won't force it, but if a dog is he loves it. Shep does not like when other dogs jump on his back or have bad manners and he will let them know so someone who can monitor situations and call him and remove him from the situation calmly would be good, you do need a bit of confidence
KIDS- he has met a few kids at the park and just loves getting pats from them. He definitely doesn't know his size, and will sit on anyone and lie on anyone and when he does zoomies he can bump into you sometimes so he really thinks he's a little dog. A home with older or no children preferred.
SLEEPING- he's a snorer which is so adorable, he will sleep right through the night, he really does love his sleep a lot and is good through the night. He prefers sleeping inside, he sleeps in my bedroom in his fluffy bed
ENERGY LEVEL-
Low-Moderate- he does need a walk every day at least 30 mins, and toys to keep him occupied but overall he just loves to sleep and lay around, loves playing with toys
OTHER HABITS-
-If you are sitting on the couch he has to be lying on you, he loves affection so much and he will need a owner that is patient with this or best case loves this, me and the girls don't mind when he wants to lay on us for pats or to sleep so we haven't taught him any different, he doesn't listen when you tell him down so you need to direct him whether it's with a treat or getting up and patting his bed.
- like the rubbish bin: if he can access it he will see what he can find in there.
- when he plays he gets mouthy so he will open his mouth and try and play bite u, it doesn't hurt at all he just is playing, a new owner but get scared at this cause he is a big boy I'm not sure but he's always gentle
- he loves people sooo much that when I have let him off leash at the gated dog park if someone is sitting on a bench he will go up to them and lay on them and try to lick them, he gets really excited meeting new people and is just all over them, if the person isn't okay with it I call him away by showing him his ball, but if they don't mind I let them cuddle and pat him
OVERALL- he's just a really sweet lazy boy who loves people, cuddles, food and walks, he would benefit from someone who would be home a lot to give him the attention he needs, he is such a special boy with so many funny quirks that you will get to know.
Adoption details
If you think one of our animals would be a good match for your home please email us and we will be in touch shortly after. We all work fulltime, have families and other commitments so your patience is appreciated.
We do require any other dogs in your home meeting our foster animal before they head home with you. This enables us to assess their compatibility and helps prevent them being returned and creating more confusion/insecurities for the foster animal.
All our animals are available for a two week trial with full refund. They are also covered by a lifetime return policy. If you ever find yourself unable to care for or keep your pet please contact us and they will come back into our care, this is a condition of our Adoptions.
