Marcus aka 'Marky'. Where to start with this lovely puppy? He is always happy. When he sees you, those long ears fold back against his head, he smiles at you with his tongue out and the whole body wiggles. He will do a couple of barks to say he’s excited to see you in the morning and every time you come home. If he’s really excited, maybe a few more barks until he receives his morning cuddles and settles.
Even though he has 2 big boy dogs to play with, he’ll pass them up for human interactions. He’s learning not to jump on you when you sit down, especially on a lounge and he does listen to ‘stop’ and ‘no’ (tone of voice too). But if you’re not upset with doggie licks and cuddles, then he’s yours. He’ll snuggle up to you and go to sleep close by.
He is such a quick learner! In the weeks he’s been in foster care he has changed from a frightened little puppy into a confident friend.
He knows his food is given to him in his crate. When we say ‘crate’ he dashes into it, sitting semi-patiently. He’s learning to wait to be released from the crate and that’s only because he thinks his dog buddies should share their food with him. He’s learning that the crate is his safe place and he sleeps in there, but does prefer the comfy dogs beds on the floor or to sneak onto the lounge where he’ll sleep with his head on the armrest.
He sits, understands wait – humans go outside and inside first, loves cars rides and falls asleep on the seat in his harness. He recalls and often beats the 2 big dogs into the house. When he comes he’ll sit in front of your feet, looking into your face.
His toileting is getting better as he grows older. Now he’ll toilet when he’s let outside and knows if he does, there are pats and ‘Good boy’ in the human’s happy voice.
Marcus knows it’s not a good idea to chase kitties as they have sharp claws. He’ll watch them walk by and even when they run will still watch them. He would love to have his own kitty friend to cuddle up to him.
He’s very good at the vet. He’ll let the vet poke and prod him without a whimper or protest, even when the fingers go in the mouth to check teeth. Those teeth are changing from puppy sharpies to big boy teeth and he wants to chew, anything from his comfy bed to the human shoe left in his zone. Brisket bones with the fat cut off are his favourite along with treat balls and chewing toys.
This boy can run! Zoomies in the yard and running because he can are great to watch. He easily beats the big boys with his zippy speed. He'll make a great running buddy to take on walks and bike rides.
It would be even better if his new family have another dog for him to enjoy playing with and a human child or two over 10 years of age who can keep teaching him not to jump when exited and give lots of praise.
With a few cuddles and love, Marcus' life will be perfect and his forever family will be rewarded with a faithful family member.
