About Smokey ^^Dandy Cat Rescue^^
🐱🐱 $150 adoption fee 🐱🐱
Smokey is a special needs kitten who came to our rescue unable to walk. Initially Smokey had to be carried to his food and water bowls and the litter tray while we took him to our vet to determine why he couldn’t walk.
We soon discovered that Smokey was born with a congenital abnormality which has resulted in his two front legs being shorter than his back legs. His front legs also bow slightly outwards. This has given Smokey a funny little waddle walk that has dramatically improved during his time with us. His gait is now almost entirely normal!
Smokey may have some back issues later in life because of his front legs however, cats are very flexible and this may diminish as he grows up. Smokey also fractured one of his back legs when he was very small and it has healed itself, and he is now happy and pain-free.
Smokey has been around other kitties in foster care and they have helped encourage him to get mobile and be active. Smokey was shaky on his feet to start with but now he runs around, jumps up on the bed and is as funny and playful as any other kitten his age.
Although shy to start with, Smokey has now grown in confidence and is an adorable little champion. He is delighted that he can keep up with other kitties and he understands how lucky he is to walk. He is grateful for every step (especially when he decides he doesn't want a cuddle and waddles away to play instead!)
Smokey is now very affectionate with people; he likes to sleep with you every night and you’ll wake up to find him snuggled up next to you. As such he is not suited to a home where he will be shut away in another room at night or where he will be the only cat left alone for long stretches. He's used to having someone around a majority of the time - be it cat or human!
If you can open your heart to adopting this precious, one-of-a-kind kitten you will be rewarded a million times over with his love. He hasn't had a great start in life and came to us with quite a few challenges.
But Smokey has a huge heart for such a little guy and he embraces life with a zest that is really infectious. You can’t help but cheer this adorable boy on as he overcomes hurdle after hurdle.
Smokey occasionally gets flare ups of gingivitis and might need antibiotics to help manage it. While Smokey has had his challenges, he is now able to live the rest of his life as a nearly normal cat. He is perfectly imperfect!
Smokey will need a home that has older teenage children or just adults. He would make a great companion for a young cat. He is not suited to being the only cat in your home, as Smokey has grown to depend on the company of another kitty. Smokey is untested on dogs and we do not recommend he go to a home with dogs.
Located in Fairfield.
