Drifta is a stunning boy, a perfect mix of energetic, bouncy puppy and couch potato. He is 6 months old and loves anything that will take the time to acknowledge him - other dogs, cats, birds but ESPECIALLY people. His bottom half goes into overdrive immediately he sees something to love, wagging his tail so hard that his hips do a hula dance. He gives the best kisses if you let him but, be warned, he has a terrific Boxer drool to share with you.
After a short settling in period, Drifta has now started to put himself to bed by 7pm. He just disappears and you find him snoring on a mat in the bedroom, often with his head propped up at an odd angle up the wall. He generally sleeps all night, even with the comings and goings around him, until his puppy stomach wakes him demanding breakfast and a wee. Drifta is 99% toilet trained in the house, only having accidents by the door if you miss his cues that he needs to go out.
Drifta walks well on lead, but he does get pretty tired by the end of a longer walk and plants his bum on the ground to tell you he has had enough; you then have a short distance of walking left in him to get back to the car before he takes a 2 hour recovery nap.
Drifta has learned to sit for his food and accepts treats gently from his hooman's hands. It appears that he had to compete for food in the past, but is learning that there is plenty to go around and that he can eat slowly and calmly. For the time being, however, if other dogs are around, I recommend that Drifta is fed separately to give him time to eat without anxiety. His feline foster siblings do not cause him the same anxiety and can walk past his food without a reaction. Due to this food obsession, Drifta is still learning that people food is off limits, be it on a plate or on a bench. He needs continued education on this but is responding well when supervised. However, unguarded food is a treat that is too tempting currently, especially when it is at nose level.
Drifta would love a home where he has lots of company, canine, feline or human. Coming and going during the day is fine, but Drifta would not suit a family that leaves him at home for long periods alone. He is an absolute angel in the car and out in public and would love to come to sporting events and cafes with you. He settles well on his own and has not shown any destructive behaviour whilst living with us. He has not contributed to the garden excavations that previous foster dogs have started around our property, preferring to chase balls and chew toys. He LOVES children, but is a very solid 18kgs and still growing, so supervision around smaller children is recommended so he does not knock them over accidentally with his enthusiastic cuddles.
