Miniature Schnauzer

Adoption fee $500
This is Benson's story.
Benson has only ever known the one owner, but now his owner is moving and through no fault of his own finds himself needing a new Furrever home.
He has basic training and understands his commands and his name, he is fully house trained and knows how to use a doggy door.
Originally he was introduced to the outside world at an off leash dog Park and occasionally walked in the street, but both these activities became to difficult once his owner moved in with a partner who had resident dogs, which apparently Benson didn't get along with and it became to hard to organise so he spent his time in his family's original home and became bored so barked a lot as Schnauzer's are known for.
Since he has come into CARMAR care Benson has been introduced to a daily routine.
After showing signs of being timid/fearful of new situations, we set him a routine so he feels safe, secure, engaged, loved and cared for.
He has come on in leaps and bounds now that he understands what is expected of him with regards to his new routine lifestyle.
He now thoroughly enjoys walking around the streets on lead and harness for 45 minutes in the morning and afternoon, he also loves a game of play and fetch with a favourite toy for his mental and physical health.
He knows he will be fed at a certain time morning and night.
He sleeps very peacefully on his couch or his bed in the loungeroom, but will very happily sleep on your bed with you given half a chance!
He meets other dogs and humans of all shapes and sizes on his daily walks and is fantastic meeting new dogs, but still a little wary of some humans, but with reassurance and training from his foster carers he is learning very quickly how to overcome his fears of new experiences.
And Benson no longer barks from boredom
He is to connected ,stimulated and tired to bother barking any more(except at strangers approaching his property)ā
Benson has good basic training -'sit, stay ,come' ā
He is absolutely fine with other friendly dogsā
He loves car travel.ā
Food orientated for training ā
Walking on harness and leadā
Walking on roads with loud busy traffic noises.ā
Meeting new dogs on lead in the streetā
Meeting new humans at foster carers home(his territory)will bark but will approach with reassurance ā
Walking down the busy tourist precinct andĀ farmers markets, amongst lots of other people and noises etc.ā
No fear of thunder or lightningā
Not good with cats, or small petsā
Untested on small childrenā
This breed can become 'protective/territorial' of owner and home so we suggest ongoing daily socialisation.
All Benson needs now to blossom into the gorgeous sweet loving dog we know he is behind those adoring eyes, is to settle into a loving family /household routine where he feels safe, secure, stimulated and loved for the rest of his entire life!
