About Wesley
Wesley is a friendly, easygoing young chap looking for a special home.
Wesley has a gentle nature and he is fine with children and other dogs.
Life's been a bit rough so far for Wesley: he came to the RSPCA with a fractured hip bone. He is still recovering from surgery but is doing well, walking normally on the leg most of the time.
Because of this injury, Wesley may have a permanent limp. His athletic ability will be limited, and he may develop arthritis as he gets older (see medical notes).
Wesley will need a lifestyle where he can continue to be exercised in a controlled manner until he is stronger on his leg, and his weight will need to be kept down.
Wesley has had basic training and walks well on a lead. He absolutely adores human company, and needs a home where he has companionship most of the time.
After a tough start, this gorgeous young boy deserves his chance in life. He is gentle, affectionate, handsome and calm. He will make a wonderful life companion or family member.
Wesley weighs 25kg and is staying at Bodalla. He is available for adoption in NSW and the ACT.
Medical notes
Wesley came to the RSPCA with a fractured right femoral head and neck (capital physeal fracture of the right hind leg). He underwent a femoral head ostectomy on 1 March 2021, a procedure which resolves all lameness in 80-90% of dogs. Wesley is recovering well, but will need gentle exercise until the end of June. Depending on his progress at that time, his exercise regime can be ramped up. His athletic ability will be affected during his life; he may favour the leg while running, and he may develop arthritis in the leg as he gets older. If he significantly favours his injured leg, the other leg may also develop arthritis or even cruciate rupture. If he continues to limp on his right leg and develops muscle wastage, amputation is a slim possibility - this happens in 5-10% of cases.
