About Bolt
Bolt is looking for a foster carer whilst we continue to asses and treat him for his current health conditions. We need a loving foster care home, preferably with no other animals or small children so as to focus the care on him.
Foster carer's do not pay the listed adoption fee (but we have to include one for the PetRescue site)
Bolt is 7 years old. His human says they were told he was a pure breed American Staffy, but they didn’t see any papers - not 100% sure. Due to a change in circumstances his human family can no-longer care for him and they have brought him to us for help.
At this stage we know Bolt is suffering from considerable vision loss, possible cataracts, reducing his sight down to about 20-30%. He is capable in spaces that he becomes familiar with, he is confident on walks whilst on the lead - good sense of hearing and sense of smell compensate a fair bit. Surprises from other dogs could be a trigger. We need an attentive carer who will be mindful of Bolt's special needs in this regard.
Bolt needs a bit of training, he has demonstrated an eagerness to learn. He jumps a bit because he is excited to see you, nothing aggressive.
Being a Staffy, he has some anxiety issues, so he needs a human to be around a lot of the time otherwise he won't make the kind of progress we hope for him.
He has been neutered and microchipped.
More medical issues may come to light as we proceed with getting Bolt to the point where a permanent adoption is on the cards. We need a foster carer who can help us with this by transporting to and from the vet for all appointments and following vet instructions for treatment. You will need to be observant of Bolt's behaviours and reactions and constantly communicating with us.
All vet work will be paid by New Life For Animals Rehoming Centre.
Foster carers are eligible to apply for adoption if you become too attached.

Adoption details
Foster carers must first be interviewed by a New Life For Animals committee member. After approval and a succesful home inspection to ensure appropriate accommodation, we will ask you to sign a foster carer volunteer agreement.
The terms include:
Responsibilities of the foster carer:
1. To submit their housing area to inspection by a representative of New Life For Animals Rehoming Centre to ensure it is appropriate for the animal(s).
2. To provide daily food, water, shelter and a safe environment for the foster animal(s).
3. To monitor and report any health concerns of the animal(s).
4. To take the animal(s) to an appropriate vet without delay if medical attention is needed.
5. To deliver appropriate medical treatment as instructed by a vet or by the network leaders, unless otherwise discussed.
6. To keep in regular communication with the volunteer network coordinator.
7. To provide an enriched environment for the animal(s).
8. To feed the animal(s) a healthy diet appropriate to their individual needs.
9. To assist with transport and delivery of the foster animal(s) to their permanent homes if and where possible unless otherwise discussed. When delivering the animal(s) the foster carer agrees:
a. To perform a site inspection and confirm that the housing and environment is of adequate standard. If the housing and environment is not up to standard the foster carer agrees to contact network leaders or to refuse to leave the animal(s) in that location.
b. To ensure the new adopters read and sign an adoption agreement form. One copy of this form is to be returned to the network, and one copy is to remain with the adopters.
Foster carers understand that they are acting as volunteers of the network and as such will act in good faith and for the best interests of the animal(s) and uphold the reputation of the network.
Foster carers understand that they will not be compensated or reimbursed for the basic expenses relating to the care of animal(s). If and when resources are available to support the foster carer they will be made available at the discretion of the committee.
Rights of a foster carer:
1. A foster carer has the right to seek advice and support for the care of the animal(s) from other members of the network and should expect that support to be forthcoming.
2. Costs incurred in the routine care of the animal(s) may be claimed as charitable contributions if receipts are retained and submitted the committee of New Life For Animals Rehoming Centre.
3. A foster carer may terminate their involvement with New Life For Animals Rehoming Centre at any time in writing. At that point it is expected that the foster carer will continue to provide standard care for the animal(s) until such a time as they can be collected and relocated. All efforts will be made to ensure this is done as quickly as possible.
4. A foster carer can at any time request one or more of the animal(s) in their care be relocated if there are problems or a risk for some reason. All efforts will then be made to ensure relocation in an expedient manner.
5. A foster carer is not expected to pay for extensive veterinary bills beyond basic consultation fees. Wherever possible the consultation fees will also be paid for by New Life For Animals Rehoming Centre.
a. This is not applicable if the illness or injury is determined to be due to negligence on the part of the foster carer. In such a case all fees will be payable by the foster carer.
b. This is not applicable in cases where the foster carer decides to take an animal to the vet after the committee of New Life For Animals Rehoming Centre has determined it unnecessary.
This agreement can be terminated in writing at any time by either party. Suitable notice and allowance must be made for relocating the animal(s) in care but all efforts must be made by both parties to ensure this is done swiftly.
