About Holly ~ 12yr Old Shih Tzu (On Trial 24/4/21)
Are you thinking about adopting an older dog? Because you do not want to deal with the whole getting a new puppy thing? If that’s the case, you may want to consider adopting Holly, a 12 (going on 13 in August) year old Shih Tzu.
Holly is a very friendly senior with a sweet nature and has been very good with all the dogs she has met. She hasn't been tested with cats or pocket pets, however she is a very social creature. Holly also is a bit partial to her belly rubs, however her favourite activity is going on long walks. Currently Holly gets at least one 1 hour daily walk. For an old girl she loves to remain active and would best suit somewhere where this behaviour is regularly encouraged and undertaken. Holly is highly food motivated and for that reason her food intake needs to be monitored and restricted as she needs to lose approximately 2kg.
Holly shows mild signs of separation anxiety, and while she can cope with you being away from home to work for the day, she would flourish so much more long-term if she was placed in an environment where she will be accompanied for majority of her time, and where she is able to sleep inside. Holly is an excellent and loyal companion.
Even though Holly is a senior, she still will require training in boundaries. Holly sometimes has ‘accidents’ in the house and may require some dedicated time in focusing on her house-training skills. Sometimes Hollys toilet behaviour can be hit or miss. Holly has also been recently diagnosed with dry-eye. This is an ongoing condition, which will require medication for her eyes for the rest of her natural life. At present, Holly has been prescribed an eye ointment that is applied to both eyes, twice daily. The medication is prescription only, lasts approximately 4-6 weeks and costs around $98 (depending on your vet).
She is just a beautiful all-round great dog, gentle, loving, and adorable fun girl who deserves a loving companion back.
For more information or to meet Holly, please contact her foster carer Shaynie via email drn.shaynie@gmail.com
Holly is in foster care in New Lambton, NSW and is not currently available for interstate adoption.
Hollys adoption fee is $300 and she is desexed, vaccinated, treated for fleas and worms, microchipped. You can see all our available dogs at www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au
