Hawk

Atakarna Winterhawk ('HAWK') is a brown and rust-red pedigree male Doberman, born on 24 November 2018. His pedigree papers form part of this profile.

The much-loved companion of an elderly lady, Hawk was reluctantly surrendered to us for rehoming due to the age and ill-health of the owner - and to be frank, her inability to curb his exuberant and, at times, unruly behaviour.

Hawk has potential to be a great canine companion, but the emphasis is on "potential". He is a big, handsome dog but has never been effectively disciplined or trained. He needs a firm and experienced hand to achieve his full potential.

However, he has some very good points. He is loving and affectionate. He has a big, happy personality and is very people-oriented to the point of being a "space invader". All the staff at our veterinary clinic fell in love with him when we took him in for his health check. Loving and sweet-natured, Hawk greatly enjoyed being the centre of attention.

True to his breed, he is a powerful and energetic dog that needs lots of exercise. He loves playing ball. He currently weighs 47.5 kgs and is too big and exuberant to be a suitable companion for children.

He is very much an inside-outside dog and is used to being an integral part of the family. He slept in his owner's bed. He is house-trained in that he knows not to pee or poo in the house. However, if he sees a fly or a gecko inside, he'll almost literally climb the walls to catch it.

Hawk is accustomed to having his favourite human at home most of the time, so is definitely not suited to full-time workers, nor is he suited to spending endless hours in the backyard by himself, otherwise he'll give vent to his destructive streak, which includes digging and chewing plants.

Hawk is NOT tolerant of other dogs and needs to be in a home where he is the only canine in residence. He is untested with cats.

Hawk's adoption fee is $900 and he is desexed, vaccinated and microchipped.

PRIOR EXPERIENCE with training and managing adult Dobes is ESSENTIAL.

We are happy to receive interstate applications, but all applicants must be prepared to travel to Warwick to meet Hawk.
