About Coco
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
TO BE ADOPTED OUT OF ESPERANCE
NAME: Coco
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to us as an owner surrender.
BREED: Jack Russell X Chihuahua
General Breed Traits: Jack Russell Terrier: Generally lively, independent and clever. They are trainable but have a mind of their own and if bored can exhibit destructive behaviours such as digging and chewing. Devoted to their people, and love being with them so cannot be left for long periods. Jack Russells can exhibit 'small dog syndrome' unless well socialised so may be reactive to larger dogs which can get them into trouble if not monitored.
Chihuahua: they love to be with their people and are definitely companion dogs that do not like to be left alone, They are sensitive, but are dogs, and can be problematic if overindulged. They can be aloof or wary of strangers and other dogs so early socialisation is very important. Chihuahuas cannot tolerate cold or hot weather so a warm coat in the winter and care re overheating in the summer is needed - they are not outside dogs. They are bright and wilful but will learn if you make it fun and although small, have big personalities. Quick learners, they can compete in agility and obedience trials so don't dismiss a Chihuahua just because it is cute!
ASSETS: Easy-going, affectionate, assertive, friendly, obedient, sensitive, and active. She also loves cuddle time! She can be a little hyper when meeting new people but soon calms down.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Coco loves to play with her toys. She has a Peppa Pig toy that she loves to play with and chase when it's thrown. She also likes to get out and about for a walk and will happily curl up on the couch afterwards for a snuggle.
ENDEARING FEATURES: She's a quiet girl who is very affectionate and has a very sweet nature.
OTHER ANIMALS: She gets on well with other friendly dogs after gentle introduction. She can be a little wary of large dogs and may choose to keep her distance until she knows they are friendly. She previously lived with a cat and shares her foster home with two so is very cat friendly.
GENERAL INFO: Coco walks well on her lead and only barks when someone is at the door. She does need a little housetraining still and has the odd accident inside, but routine and some consistency in her new home should sort this out. Her command training is coming along nicely but will need some more work from her new owner. She makes quirky little noises at times which amuses her foster carer greatly.
HEALTH: Coco was surrendered to SAFE Esperance due to sustaining a broken back leg. She was taken to surgery and had plate and pins fixed to rectify the break. Coco has recovered really well and now has full use of the leg again. Some dogs require the plate and pins to be removed later in life if the leg becomes painful due to the screws loosening or general inflammation. This is a surgical procedure which varies in cost but could be in the region of $1,000 to $1,500.
HOME ESSENTIALS:
*Stability: A home where someone is there for most of the day on a permanent basis (not just through Covid 19) or can take her with them when they go out, as she really doesn't like to be left alone. She would benefit from an owner who will train her and take her to professional classes where she can socialize and learn new things in a safe and controlled environment.
*Time: Coco has a medium energy level and will need daily exercise. A walk twice a day will keep her happy and healthy.
*Space: Coco needs a well fenced, secure yard with some grass and interesting things for her to sniff.
*Love: Coco needs to be allowed to be inside or out as she chooses, to sleep inside at night and to be included as part of the family. She would go well with dog-savvy, gentle children over 10 years old.
If Coco sounds like the perfect girl for you, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
