Ben

All our greyhounds are special, but 3-year-old Ben is one of our most special hounds yet.

Ben favourite things in the world are hummus, bananas, and balls. In fact, he’s obsessed with balls – something to be aware of if you are at the park or have kids, as Ben truly believes all balls belong to him.

Ben is currently in foster care with another greyhound. However, his big brother greyhound is more of a ‘giant grumpy old cat’ than ‘playmate’ personality. We think Ben would be happy to live as an only dog, or with another friendly greyhound. Ben has not had much opportunity for interaction with other breeds and is not small-dog friendly. His new home will take socialisation with other dog breeds slowly.

Ben is a clever boy and has learned his breakfast, dinner, and bedtime routine well. He can be a bit reluctant to go outside for his morning and before-bed wee but with a bit of encouragement he gets there. Ben also knows ‘on your bed’ and ‘wait’ (for his food).

Ben walks well on-leash although he does sometimes ‘freeze’, especially if he is not ready to come home. While Ben would love a yard to play in, we also think he would be fine in a smaller home provided he had good daily walks and enrichment. Due to previous injuries, Ben is not suited to a home with stairs.

Ben has not shown any signs of separation anxiety when his foster carers have been out for a few hours at a time, although he has always had the company of another dog. If Ben is the only dog in his new home, we’d recommend starting with short periods of alone time and building up.

Ben has met a few kids aged between 4 and 12 and has been generally good with them but he does sometimes jump or ‘mouth’ when excited. For this reason, he would be best suited to a home with only adults or with kids aged 10 years and over. He also sometimes forgets that slippers (especially with feet inside) are not for nibbling on!

When Ben first arrived with Amazing Greys, he had an old injury to his front foreleg which required surgery to fuse his ankle joint so he can live pain free and enjoy life to the fullest. Ben is currently recovering and will complete all follow-up checks and cast changes before moving into his forever home.

Ben’s foster carers describe him as lovable, goofy, and affectionate. They think he’s just the nicest dog and would keep him if they could. If you think you have the best home in the world for this extra-special long-boy, please enquire at adopt@amazinggreys.com.au
