About Judd
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Judd aka goofy boy!
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to us from the pound.
BREED: Shar Pei X - Judd is over 30kgs and so has a large breed in the mix but what that breed is would be guess work.
General Breed Traits: Shar Pei: originally bred to guard, hunt, herd and fight the Shar Pei is now a companion dog. A calm, independent thinker, sometimes aloof he is a good watch dog and guard dog and devoted to his family. Early training is essential to counter his stubborn strong will, and socialisation with humans and dogs must begin early. Due to his short nose he is prone to overheating so needs to be an inside dog.
ASSETS: Easy-going, affectionate, eager to please, friendly and active, Judd is an absolute love-bug with his people and everyone who meets him loves him!
FAVOURITE THINGS: He loves to get out and about for walk time. He also enjoys playing and interacting with other dogs and playing chasing games with his humans. He is a very contented boy when he is with his human and can join you in what you are doing. He also loves to go for car rides or even just sit in the car - one of his favourite places.
ENDEARING FEATURES: He has a very docile and friendly nature, he really is a sweetheart!
OTHER ANIMALS: He gets on well with other friendly dogs after gentle introduction. He is generally easy going with dogs he meets but needs some work with his manners - he can be pushy and want to take another dog's treat/bone so care needs to be taken around food if other dogs are near. He had been living with a small breed dog in his previous home and could possibly do so again - preferably female - but certainly a laid back, easy going temperament although Judd does love to play. He has shown chasing behaviour towards cats so we won't place him in a home with cats or small animals.
GENERAL INFO: Judd walks well on his lead with his halti, is housetrained and rarely barks but he does suffer from separation anxiety - he has not been particularly destructive but if left alone will try to leave his garden by opening the gate or will sit and howl until his owner returns. Having another dog for company doesn't curb this behaviour. Judd therefore needs a home where his human is with him for most of the time - possibly someone who works from home or is retired. His command training is coming along nicely but will need some more work from his new owner. Judd is a rough diamond who hasn't had the benefit of training so will also need gentle but firm structure in his daily life and within the home to set boundaries and give him the foundation that he lacks. He isn't keen on the ocean at present as we don't think he has visited a beach before coming to Esperance. He has a fear of garden hoses.
HOME ESSENTIALS:
* Stability: A home where someone is there for most of the day on a permanent basis (not just through Covid 19) or can take him with them when they go out, as he really doesn't like to be left alone. He needs someone who will train him and take him to professional classes where he can socialize and learn new things in a safe and controlled environment. He has lived with a smaller, non-assertive dog in the past and could live with a youngish doggy companion in his new home.
* Time: Judd is medium energy and will need daily exercise. A good walk/run twice a day to keep him happy and healthy.
* Space: Judd needs a good sized, well fenced, secure yard with some grass and interesting things for him to sniff.
* Love: Judd needs to be allowed to be inside or out as he chooses, to sleep inside at night and to be included as part of the family. He is happy when close to his human. He would go well with dog-savvy, gentle children over 5 years old.
* Judd will need a dog savvy home due to his size and training requirements going forward.
If Judd sounds like the perfect boy for you, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
