Amber

Hi there, I'm Amber!

I'm a bit of a timid soul, and I need an understanding home with a kind, gentle new family who are prepared to be patient with me. This whole pet thing is quite new to me, and I can take a while to find my confidence.

I've been told I'm a bit of a supermodel and since I arrived at Greysland, I've been making everyone swoon with my good looks. I've been coming out of my shell so much too, even asking the volunteers for affection! Now I've been lucky enough to find my way to a foster home where I get a nice warm bed and some kind humans to help me learn all about being a pet... how lucky am I!

The dogtors tell me I have something called a 'heart murmur'. Apparently it just means I need my humans to take extra good care of me and make sure I don't overexert myself... which shouldn't be a problem, as I prefer the quiet life.

I get along well with other greyhounds, and with the help of some treats and practice I'm learning to be more confident around other dogs. We might just need to take things slow - I guess slow and steady is just my style!

A note from Amber's foster family

Amber is going well! She is absolutely in love with her big fluffy bed and hardly moves from it all day. She loves to hide all sorts of toys and even her own limbs down its deep sides. When she's not snoozing the day away, she loves a cuddle.

Amber is very food motivated with treats (her favourites are chicken, sardines, peanut butter and yoghurt). She is a bit fussy about meal times, but her chosen delicacy is what can only be described as 'kibble cereal' - adding some warm water and yoghurt into the bowl - which we find gross but Amber loves! She likes a later breakfast, and will bark at you if dinner is served any later than 7pm!

Amber is very nervous outdoors and is not a fan of walking due to the noises and people/animals she can encounter outside. She goes for short walks later in the evening when things are quieter. She doesn't cover a lot of distance, but enjoys a good sniff for 10 or so minutes. When she's done, she'll walk straight back towards home.

At home, Amber is very good at giving signals when she needs to go out to the toilet. She is pretty good at being left alone and loves enrichment activities. Sometimes if she's left alone for hours by herself, we get home to find she hasn't even moved from her big bed!

Amber is quite nervous in new situations and likes to take things slow. Her ideal home would be a quiet one somewhere in suburbia, away from the loud noises of the city. She would do best as the only dog, as she is quite timid around other dogs and new people.
