About Gem
Gorgeous Little Gem is an English staffy and is ready for her loving forever home. Little Gem is 16 kg and a little staffy who is approx 7 and half years old.
Little Gem has a moderate amount of energy and is currently living with her 18 month old foster brother and while she does try and keep up with him she tends to curl up and sleep a lot more than him. Little Gem is a very social dog with both humans and other dogs but can be very selective of the dogs she likes. She gets on fantastically with her foster brother and has shown no aggression what so ever. Little Gem also loves her humans and needs someone who is home more often than not. Being a staffy she doesn't like to be left home alone.
Little Gem has spent time with humans of all ages from 8 - 75 and is so gentle and loving. One of her favourite places to be is next to her 12 year old human brother while he plays on his PC or curled up on his bed. Especially when trying to have a break from her younger foster brother.
Little Gem will definitely suit a family that is home more often than not and an only dog home. Little Gem does not really play with toys but since the arrival of her foster brother she is learning how much fun they can be. She does not like water at all but again we are getting her used to this.
She has had a few trips in the car and is getting much better every time and with ongoing patience she will master this! She loves the car but doesn't quite know how to sit still. She is not a fan at all of crates.
Food
Little Gem eats twice a day, a combination of dry and prime roll. She can be a little fussy with the dry food and tends to eat all the roll first. She will sit for food and is learning the wait command. She has shown no food aggression but beware she LOVES her food and would eat all day every day if you let her. She has been having
a daily bone which she loves.
Walking
Little Gem is fantastic on the lead but does like to stop and sniff quite alot. She rarely pulls and will sit on command and every curb. She has been learning to heel while crossing a road and is picking this up quite quickly. She would suit 1 - 2, 20 minute walks per day.
She is very interested in people and other dogs around her while walking but has shown no aggression, sometimes a very high pitched bark ( which I have discovered is her let me go play with them bark ).... but she is just wanting to investigate and probably get some love from them too.
Training
Little Gem has had a couple of accidents in the house when she first arrived, she learnt very quickly what the doggy door is for and will happily take herself outside for a toilet. She knows to sit very well but that is really all the commands she knows. She is learning to "stay", "no", "heel"
& "come". She will need some more training but will pick these up.
Sleeping
Little Gem has her pick on where she wants to sleep at night and will alternate between the human bed and her bed. She will sleep all night and wakes usually around 6am. She loves her morning routine of having a lay in while foster mum has a coffee then its off for a walk, home for breakfast and then back to bed either human or dog to sleep a few more hours.
We have had Gem in a home with another dog but she can get jealous so therefore a only dog home is required
Gem does not require a large yard as she preferred to be with her humans
Overall Little Gem is an absolute delight to have as part of the family and will continue to flourish in the right home.
