About Colt
The super sweet Colt now seeks his forever home
Colt is not a big boy but has a huge appetite for fun and games
He is a Boxer x Kelpie who loves other dogs and having fun
He will suite a home with a family with a zest for outdoor fun and another female dog similar to his size who loves to play
Colt is one the most loving and affectionate dogs around, he wants to be with you 24/7 and loves to play and get pets. He also exudes the confidence and attitude of a toddler ??. He is still learning what he can and can’t do, and will push the boundaries as much as he can. He is also a very quick learner and will learn a new trick after only 2 or 3 repeat attempts.
He has very high energy levels and needs to be exercised daily - the dog park has been great to get him burning off some energy while running around with other dogs.
This sweetheart will be your most loyal companion ??.
Toileting
Colt is house trained but I’d really busting to go, may have an accident inside rather than let you know he needs to go.
Commands/training
Colt knows how to sit and shake hands and has been practicing very hard on off lead and recall while in foster care.
His off lead and recall have improved really well when he doesn’t have any distractions around (aka other dogs or people), but as soon as there are other things to amuse him he will switch on his selective hearing. We’ve been practicing this at the dog park and he is showing signs of improvement, and would greatly benefit continued training in this space.
He is slowly learning not to jump all over other people and ignore bikes on the shared path during walks but still needs more practice here.
Bedtime
Cult currently sleeps in the laundry of an evening and sleeps all night until you get up and let him out to go to the toilet in the morning. Given his very affectionate behaviour he would sleep on your bed if you let him. When first put to bed, he may play with his bedding initially, but usually settles very quickly into a slumber.
Exercise/games
The boy is a very energetic one and requires a lot of stimulation and daily walks. Currently he gets an hour walk each day and and hour at the dog park to play with other dogs.
He needs a harness when being walked as he can pull hard when excited, but in general is pretty good on the lead. He wags his tail the entire walk, and is very quick to learn his walking routes. He is a very confident boy and enjoys having a good sniff of just about everything.
When left alone, for even only an hour or two he can destroy whatever he can get his hands on and will dig wherever he can.
I believe he bores easily and seeks constant company. I’d recommend he go into a home with another dog of similar energetic behaviour as a play mate may help alleviate some of his boredom when left alone.
He also needs a lot of space to run around, as he is currently at a home with a small yard, which isn’t well suited to his energy levels.
He loves to play with toys and play tug of war, but tends to only play with toys if his human is playing with them too, otherwise he snubs them.
People
Colt loves everyone and everything, though from time to time he may act a little cautious towards some males, particularly tall men, or if they are holding a stick or something similar. From what I have seen he wakes up pretty quickly to them once he has worked out they are nice.
I would not recommend he go to a home with young children, but 10 and up would be ok. The reason for this is that when he gets over stimulated he will jump, get a little mouthy and paw at you for attention. While it’s easy to settle him quickly and get him to stop, he is
