About Asha
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Asha
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to us as an owner surrender.
BREED: Jack Russell x Chihuahua (slightly bigger than you would expect so will have other breeds in the mix)
Jack Russell Terrier - lively, independent and clever. Trainable but have a mind of their own and if bored can exhibit destructive behaviours such as digging and chewing. Terriers are devoted to their people, affectionate and love being with them so cannot be left for long periods. Jack Russells can exhibit 'small dog syndrome' unless well socialised and so may be reactive to larger dogs which can get them into trouble if not monitored.
Chihuahua - love to be with their people and are definitely companion dogs that do not like to be left alone, They are sensitive, and can be problematic if overindulged. Can be aloof or wary of strangers and other dogs so early socialisation is very important. Chihuahuas cannot tolerate cold or hot weather so a warm coat in the winter and care re overheating in the summer is needed - they are not outside dogs. They are bright and willful but will learn if you make it fun and although small, have big personalities that can get them into trouble. Quick learners, they can compete in agility and obedience trials so don't dismiss a Chihuahua just because it is cute!
ASSETS: He's an absolute darling! Friendly, eager to please, outgoing, active, sweet and playful! He is friendly and calm around all people that he meets, although we have found that he doesn't particularly like fluro 'tradie' shirts and will become withdrawn when someone wearing one approaches him.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Playing fetch! He will happily play it for ages! He also loves his chew toys and enjoys running around the backyard playing with the other dog in his foster home.
ENDEARING FEATURES: He's so eager to please! Training is easy as he loves his treats, and he picks up new things easily. He loves to have someone to play with so a home with older children who will engage with him every day would be just perfect.
OTHER ANIMALS: He gets on well with other friendly dogs after gentle introduction. He lived with a cat in his original home and did chase her so we wouldn't recommend a home with a cat or other small animals.
GENERAL INFO: Asha loves to go 'walkies' but is still learning how to walk nicely on the lead. He pulls when he's excited to see new things but soon settles. He is housetrained and will bark when he hears strange noises or wants your attention. His command training is coming along nicely and he will need an owner who will do some more work with him on this. He doesn't like to be left alone and will chew and scratch at the door when he's anxious.
HOME ESSENTIALS:
*Stability: A home where someone is there for most of the day on a permanent basis (not just through Covid 19) or can take him with them when they go out, as he doesn't like to be left alone. He needs someone who will take the time to continue to train him. Classes are essential for Asha to make up lost ground, where he can socialize and learn new things in a safe and controlled environment.
*Time: Asha has a lot of energy and will need good daily exercise to prevent negative behaviours such as barking and digging. A good walk or run at least twice a day will stop him becoming anxious with pent up energy.
*Space: Asha needs a well fenced, secure yard with some grass and interesting things for him to sniff.
*Love: Asha needs to be allowed to be inside or out as he chooses, to sleep inside at night and to be included as part of the family. He would go well with dog-savvy, gentle children over 5 years old and would love to live with a youngish doggy friend, after gentle introduction. Asha is desperate for love and so wants to find his special family.
If Asha sounds like the perfect boy for you, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
