PROFILE
Meet Possum!
Possum is a sweet sassy 5-year-old wire-haired chihuahua who may be tiny but has a huge personality (Possum is 1.8 kg).
Possum has come from a home with many, many dogs where she would not have got much one on one attention and now craves human affection. It is therefore important that she go to a home where not only where she will be given the love that she desperately craves but one that is not going to mollycoddle her too much as this will not be good for her mental health.
Possum is very intelligent, loves walks, has excellent recall, loves food, and travels well in the car.
Possum gets lots of attention when out on walks due to her tiny size and is happy to jump into the arms of people giving her a head rub.
A home where daily walks and outings to off-leash parks/beaches is a must in her new home. Possum loves sitting beside you when you are working or watching tv and just wants to feel loved.
Of course, a home where Possum is permitted inside at all times, on furniture is a must and one where she is permitted to sleep in the bedroom would be preferred.
Possum can get lonely and cry when left at home alone so it’s important to have a very secure yard and an area inside of the home to keep her safe when you are not there and a home where her new owners are home more often than not would be the best fit for Possum at this time.
Her new owner will also need to commit to working on her separation anxiety with force-free training and preferably have prior experience with working with dogs with separation anxiety.
Her carer has started training in this regard and this is going well, however her new home will be a new environment so her new owner/s will need to set her up to succeed in this regard and continue the work that her carer has started.
As a result of her previous life Possum ie being a dog in a home with so many dogs, she can get a bit bossy (no aggression) if she feels she is not getting the attention she needs. Possum is currently living with another dog who is confident and well adjusted so she would be suited to a home with a confident, well adjusted and friendly dog who is larger than her but also may be suited to a home where she is the only dog provided she can get the attention, stimulation, and training that she needs and also provided her new owners were home most of the time and are prepared to work with Possum.
When applying please make sure to send us the information listed at the start of this profile
