About Poppy
Our Poppy is a beautiful brindle wrapped up in a neat parcel of darling and delight. A classic greyhound, Poppy prefers to spend much of the day snoozing – she is a true couch potato.
When Poppy warms to you – she’s friendly, gentle, and affectionate and wins the hearts of everyone she meets. We suspect this is because she’s mastered the art of puppy eyes – her charm is impossible to resist.
Comedy comes naturally to Poppy, she’s a talented couch contortionist, who effortlessly finds the tiniest spaces to fit into, just to snuggle with you. Throw in a blanket, and she’s set.
One short walk a day is all Poppy needs. Whilst she does walk well on a lead, she still requires some encouragement to leave the house, and her bed! A fellow greyhound companion would be the perfect motivator and comfort buffer for daily walkies. Poppy would love to share a home with a calm, confident greyhound companion with similar couch-potato energy.
The way Poppy loves is all-in – she loves to be in whatever room you’re in and she’ll follow you around the house like a shadow. Because she loves you so much, she does get sad when you leave the house. When left alone, without a canine companion, she has shown destructive separation behaviour. You’ll need to make sure that benches are cleared, and any remotes are put in the drawer before going out. Providing Poppy with enrichment toys and puzzle games in your absence will be beneficial.
When you arrive home, she does a little dance and happy whines for your arrival. Poppy is a collector, and her love of shoes is just a bit cute. Your shoes will make it into her bed unharmed, Poppy has just pinched them to use as a pillow!
Poppy is noise sensitive, and unexpected noises do make her jump! A quiet household in the suburbs with humans who work from home or part-time would be ideal for our little darling. You’ll need to provide gentle, positive guidance, so that Poppy can continue to learn that the world isn’t so scary.
Poppy is ready to take up residence in your heart and home.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
