About Opal
Opal is a dear, precious soul with a heart so big, it’s amazing it fits in such a small little body! She's a sweet little bean who loves a cuddle and also loves the company of other dogs. She will need to be in a home with another dog, preferably a bit more mature as she's only a puppy and learning to moderate play and how to keep her enthusiasm for life under control.
She will need patience and someone who is willing to work with her, she has come such a long way, but she still needs some work to build her confidence (and sometimes overconfidence!) walking on lead.
Opal loves a squeaky toy and is close to learning that toys are what we chew but occasionally she will get bored and lets her active mind get the better of her!
Opal is an enthusiastic environmentalist, she gets excited and happy at the sight of grass and trees and loves chasing leaves as they swirl around in the wind. This is a sight to behold and brings a smile and often an enormous belly laugh to all who witness it! Opal will also often pick up the odd can, bottle or empty chip packet on the daily walk as she's committed to keeping the streets clean and tidy!
Opal is a Tiger at heart and her stripes are always a talking point as they are as unusual as they are beautiful.
Opal would be ok will bigger kids but when she gets excited she can be quite physical and doesn't know her strength, this will ease as she grows into her body and her puppy phase passes.
With the right, committed owner who will work a little bit more with her, Opal is sure to bring you many laughs and many years of true unconditional love, she's a huge bit little love bug!
Summary:
- WFH or part time – someone home more often than not
- Must have another (easy going) dog of medium to large size
- Needs a backyard
- No children under 10
- Opal is not cat friendly
Medical notes
Opal sustained a fractured leg when she was around 3 months old. By the time she came into our care, she was around 8 months old and her leg had not healed properly. She was operated on and has had a very thorough rehabilitation. Her leg is fine now, but over exercising can cause some mild stiffness. It should not affect her long term quality of life.
Opal is also on anti anxiety medication, but has improved substantially. This should not need to be a long term ongoing prescription.
Adoption details
STEP 1 – ENQUIRE & EOI FORM:
Click 'Enquire about this pet' to contact us or email us at adoptions@greytgreys.org to express interest in the hound that you are looking at. We'll send you an EOI form, this must be returned before proceeding.
If the greyhound you have applied for is unavailable or unsuitable, we can match you with a more suitable greyhound. We may have a hound in foster care who might be well suited to your family.
STEP 2 – LET'S CHAT:
We'll phone you to discuss suitability, clarify any points of your application and chat process and next steps.
STEP 3 – HOUSE CHECK & MEET + GREET:
We'll come to you! The meet + greet is conducted at the same time that a house check is carried out. The meet + greet is the day that your newly adopted greyhound will be able to stay on with you.
Our adoption fee is $350.00 and must be paid on on the day of the meet + greet, and prior to starting your 3 week trial. Support from our team is freely available. If you have any issues, we urge you to contact us to try and work through them, as all rescue greyhounds have some period of adjustment.
If after the 3 week trial, you feel that you need to return the greyhound, we will refund your adoption fee (less a $50 administration fee), upon return of the dog and all paperwork and other items that the dog was adopted with.
All of our hounds are adopted out with the following:
> Collar, lead & coat
> Certificate of sterilisation & vaccination
> Flea & worm treated
> Care information for your newly adopted greyhound
> Access to our private Facebook page for foster carers, volunteers and adopters of our hounds. A community with invaluable advice and support.
