About Loki Bellingham - checking out new home!
TO APPLY FOR ADOPTION OF LOKI PLEASE SEND IN APPLICATION FORM AVAILABLE BELOW:
https://www.victoriandogrescue.org.au/about-vicdrg/adoption-and-foster-application-forms.html
Loki is a special boy and a very reluctant surrender by his heartbroken family of five years.
He is perfectly house trained and a delight to have around. Not destructive, not a barker or a digger, not an escape artist. He is a great running buddy, avid hiker (doesn’t chase wildlife), knows basic agility and loves scent work, and is great at practising and learning tricks. He is just such a clever clever boy. He knows upwards of 30 commands
However Loki is not coping well in his current environment. He is a nervous and reactive dog who will react when someone that he doesn’t know approaches him without warning or when he gets a fright. He is finding living with a toddler very stressful and really will be a different dog in a calm environment.
Loki may be fine with a calm dog, perhaps an older female like the one he currently lives with, or as an only dog. He is good to walk and ignores passing dogs as he focuses on his person, although he is still nervous and aware. But if a dog tries to make contact with him he will lunge and air snap. He has spent time with other dogs and after initial reactivity he should settle once he realizes they are part of his pack. He is not suitable for busy parks or beaches with dogs everywhere and will try to nip if a dog he doesn’t know gets in his face or rushes up to him to scare him away. Loki is fully muzzle trained.
Loki was picked up as a stray by a rural pound in 2015. He was found by the side of the road as still a very young boy and came to his current family a couple of months later. He showed signs of being abused, and was terrified of men. Once he knows you and trusts you he is a complete cuddlebug.
By working dog standards Loki has low/moderate exercise requirements. He will need a good walk every day, some mental stimulation and then he will be happy to laze around with you. He does enjoy the occasional city dog sheep herding class but does not have a high herding drive, so would only be suitable to a hobby farm, not a working environment.
He does need an experienced person or two in a peaceful household, who have the time to spend with him, and the patience to give him time to trust them. An area away from the busy inner city would be best.
Loki will only be rehomed to an adult home as he is very frightened of children, where there are no children expected or visiting
Loki has so much to give to the right person. All the initial work has been done yet he has many years left. He would really benefit from someone who loves working breeds, understands both his nervous nature and his intelligence, and can give him the stability and peace, and of course the love, that he craves.

Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer a six-week full refund, free assistance for six weeks for any issues, and a lifetime takeback policy with a fifty percent refund of the adoption fee, and of course an invitation to our adopters’ Christmas party.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.
