About Barney
Meet Barney!
Barney is a very loving dog who is full of life and is looking for his forever home. Barney LOVES people and thinks that everyone he meets is his new best friend. He loves being around people so his new family would have to be able to let him be inside as much as possible and include him in their lives. He has been moved around a little in his short life and we are looking for someone who can give him the love and stability he needs.
His mum often laughs at his antics and loves his cuddles – he thinks he isn’t too big to be a lap dog! He is such a happy boy who even smiles in his sleep. His tail is constantly wagging and he wants to be involved in everything that you do.
Barney is house trained but has had minimal other training and has a tendency to jump up so wouldn’t be great around young children – would best suit teenage kids. He has learnt the basics of sit, will wait for his dinner and his recall is pretty good when there are no other distractions. He still pulls on the lead when out walking and is very determined/strong when he sees other people or dogs. He is food motivated which will help with training. He is strong and quite stubborn so needs an experienced person to train him. It would be great for him to attend regular training classes.
Barney currently lives with a high energy female dog of a similar size and they have got on very well together although some jealousy over the one human in their life and some of the play has become a bit rough.
Barney also lives with 2 cats – they aren’t keen on him but he is very tolerant of them. He doesn’t chase them and although he sometimes needs to be reminded, he won’t steal their food.
He would be fine to live on his own or with another dog of a similar size. He can be a bit selective to some dogs so slow introductions are best. The more he's socialised the better he will get with meeting new doggos.
He loves his toys but hasn’t learnt how to play fetch and generally just runs around with them in his mouth and then comes to show you what he’s got before running off again! He loves being chased by his current dog buddy.
His perfect home would be with a young couple or family with teenage kids who can let Barney become a part of the family and not just a dog in the yard.
Barney has a big heart and wants to find a family to love.
