SEPERATION ANXIETY.
Meet Hunter, our gentle, loving and eager to please Husky. Hunter wants to be around you all the time! Unlike most huskies, Hunter is not vocal at all. He only whines at times when he wants something.
TRAINING: Housetrained and does not dig. Knows basic commands like sit, hand, down etc. Still getting there with crate training as he gets anxious that he is separated.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Once indoors, he is very calm. Once he is outdoors he is full of energy and can run at a fast pace. Walks daily and lots of mental and physical stimulation.
OTHER DOGS: Not friendly with other dogs. He either gets defensive or the other dog gets aggressive. Will need a pet free home and work with a trainer for other dogs.
CATS: Does not do well with cats!
KIDS: Hunter has been in care with a very young child and he is gentle and sweet. He loves kids will start wagging his tail if he sees children or strollers.
ON LEASH: He does pull on the lead, but very manageable. Needs plenty of training on lead walking.
BEHAVIORAL: Friendly, calm and quiet. Not interested in toys and mostly not motivated with food. Great in the house. Only whines (seldom) when he wants something, is excited or you’re too far away. Behavioral issue is major separation anxiety however. Cannot be left alone without intense howling.
IDEAL HOME: Hunter needs a home with a yard for him to run about to spend all that energy he has. Someone will need to be home most if not all of the time. Hunter has separation anxiety. It is getting much better where he doesn’t get anxious not being in the same room. However, he will still follow you around given the chance. This is why he needs someone to be home all the time because he will feel okay knowing you’re home in another room than having no one at home. The second he is alone he will howl and he needs to have a work from home owner.
NEEDS & REQUIREMENTS: Please read his specific needs here summed up and answer to yourself if you think you can meet his requirements as an adopter before you apply:
- New owner must be home all the time or at least someone must be until he is fully comfortable with being alone.
- He still needs training on lead walking and crate training.
- New owner must also commit to at least 2 hours of exercise a day (walking + running) to make sure he isn’t bored and is spending the high energy he has.
