About Jasper
Jasper is a five year old white German Shepherd x Siberian Husky, that came into our care very underweight and needing some love and attention.
Jasper is probably 90% Siberian Husky and 10% German Shepherd in personality.
Jasper is a very gentle dog, and he would sit still while his foster carers treated his ears that had severe fly strike, he sat and waited to be told he could eat the food placed in his bowl and he gently took food from their hand on command.
He accepted cuddles tentatively but the more they cuddled, the more settled and accepting he became.
Jasper has now gained 10 kilos and is no longer starving but still has a tendency to think he is. His desire and ability to run like the wind has returned. He is increasingly more attentive to calls to return even when there is something of incredible interest.
He will happily play running and chasing games as well as sit at your feet, on your lap or beside you on the lounge. He is gentle and calm around older children. He doesn’t jump but does like to push against you or sit and raise his paw to gain affection. He has quickly learnt the rules of his foster carers house and has shown he is trainable.
Jasper is a big dog with incredible strength (even though he is not back to full health). He will need 6 ft fences with plenty of room to run and a family that is prepared to run him twice a day.
Jasper is not keen on other animals and is very fearful and negatively reactive to dogs. It appears he has not been around small animals and his interest in them does not seem positive. The only time the foster carers have heard him bark was when he was frightened by a dog walking down the street.
Jasper is a most beautiful soul that is in need of a family that can give him plenty of love, affection and activity.
If you understand the nature of German Shepherds or Siberian Huskies, have recently owned a either breed, and are looking for a companion dog then please consider Jasper.
If you think you can give Jasper a new home please contact us by selecting "Enquire about this Pet".
Medical notes
Jasper is microchipped and vaccinated, desexed and heart worm tested - negative.
Adoption details
We have an Adoptions Manager who screens all prospective candidates as to their suitability to adopt a German Shepherd Dog.
We try to contact every one by phone but if that isn't successful we will email our application form to you, which needs to be completed and returned, or you can call us back and we can chat and complete for you. We will also ask you to provide photos of your yard and fencing to enable us to see where the dog will be kept and that they have areas of shade and shelter.
All our dogs are ready to go to their new home, so when you enquire about a dog you must be in a position to take them into your home. We are unable to hold a dog while you fix your fences or go on holiday, etc.
The successful candidate who adopts one of our dogs is provided with an information kit, ongoing support, training and advice on all aspects of feeding, training and general assistance to ensure both the new owner and our rescued dog settle into their home.
