About Brin
Beautiful Brin needs a very special home and people to keep her safe. Due to skin cancer, Brin must be indoors only forever and not be able to lie in the sun for hours at a time even in an enclosure. Brin is around five years old, very agile and petite, with plenty of energy and zest for life. Brin's foster mum says she is an absolute joy to have around.
When she first came into care Brin had the early stages of skin cancer on the tips of both ears. After a few weeks, both ears were partially amputated. The surgery was successful, however, it was discovered Brin loves being outdoors and sunbaking in her foster carer's cat enclosure. Rather than reclining in the shade like the other pets, Brin actively sought out the sun. With her white ears and lack of pigmentation to protect her skin she continues to be at risk.
As an interim measure, a kind neighbour made Brin a bonnet from left-over sun smart fabric to protect her ears while a shade cover was added to the enclosure.
Brin can be very curious, particularly where food is involved, so food should never be left unattended when Brin is around! Brin would love the company of another cat, either male or female. She bonded instantly with the male cat in her foster home and saw him as her protector. After a very slow introduction with the female cat, (who was initially terribly frightened of Brin) they too became buddies and hang out together in the cat enclosure. Initially, there was some barking and growling when Brin was introduced to the dogs, but now they get along fine.
Brin loves being stroked but she is still nervous when picked up. That should change as she becomes more comfortable with human contact. Brin could go to a family with younger children, as long as they were introduced slowly and appropriately supervised, and Brin has her space to destress and escape. Brin would be lonely and miserable if she was left on her own without any company, so a feline buddy would be ideal.
As long as she is kept out of the sun there should be no long term effects from her cancer. Her adoption will be by donation as the most important factor is meeting her sun free needs. If you think you can offer the life Brin longs for and needs please message the page.
