About River ~ 3mo Kelpie X(On Trial 3/3/21)
Meet River! River is a very sweet natured and playful 3 month old Cattle x Kelpie who has plenty of energy to burn. River’s favourite activities include fetch, playing in the garden and getting belly rubs.
River has been the sole attention of his foster Mum at home with no other pets tested around him yet. River has been exposed to visitors and would be suitable to a small family with children over 5 who are willing to be patient and let him come to them. When new people approach, he can be quite timid at first but quickly rolls to his back for pats and warms up to everyone who comes down to his level. He is still learning not to jump up on people and has very sharp puppy teeth, so smaller children may not be appropriate.
River is a very intelligent boy, he has quickly learned toilet training and crate training, sleeping next to his foster mums bed through the night. He knows general commands like sit, drop, down, wait and is highly driven by treat rewards. As a working dog breed, he will need someone committed to his training further and plenty of exercise. He would suit a family with someone who can come home throughout the day or someone who can take him along to work. He would be a tradies best friend, he follows his foster mum everywhere (even into the shower) and is not afraid of renovation noise.
River is still learning that the car is not a scary place but sits quietly on his lead when he is in. He also needs someone with patience to help him master walking on a lead. We always recommend puppy-training classes to give your new family member the best start in life. All dogs and puppies need plenty of affection, exercise, and training. It would be a big plus if you have a friendly adult dog as a teacher, companion and playmate for River who will help in his socialisation. He will need a medium to large back yard to run, with 5-6ft fencing (colourbond preferable).
River's adoption fee is $600 and includes desexing, vaccinations, microchipping, flea and worm treatment. As River is not yet desexed, he is only available for adoption to Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Central Coast and Port Stephens, because he will need to be returned to a local vet for desexing when he is approximately 5 months old.
