About Toula
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Toula
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to us from the pound.
ENERGY LEVEL: Typical pup at the moment, plays, eats, poops and sleeps! Toula has a medium energy level and will need daily walks to build her fitness and health. She's quite boisterous and is at the age where she's into everything!
BREED: American Staffordshire Terrier x Bullmastiff
BREED TRAITS: American Staffordshire Terrier - quite high energy, playful, affectionate and intelligent but do require training as they can be headstrong. They are very social with adults and children and are extremely loyal but can suffer from separation anxiety if left for long periods. Their sociability with dogs is a facet that needs work from an early age.
Bullmastiff - originally bred as a guard dog, this breed is affectionate with family but can be standoffish with strangers. Sensitive and loving to their clan they are a powerful and courageous guardian. Independent thinkers so training and socialisation to people, places and other dogs should start young. Best as an inside dog as they need to be protected from overheating. Low to medium energy requirements but can excel in various dog sports. Definitely not for novice owners.
ASSETS: Toula is an absolute sweetheart! She is friendly but a little shy when first meeting new people, easy going, eager to please, affectionate, obedient and playful. She is overly focused on small, fast-moving things at present being a puppy, so she could possibly live with a dog-savvy cat but only after gentle introduction and under very close supervision.
FAVOURITE THINGS: She loves to be outside playing and is happy to entertain herself with her squeaky toys. She loves to have one on one cuddles with her human and enjoys playing with other dogs whenever she can. She also wants to be wherever her human is, she's very loyal and loving.
WORKING ON: Walking on the lead and commands. She has started doing lead and command training at her foster home and is going really well. She is also doing well with housetraining but has the odd accident if left alone, so her new owner will need to put some time into reminding her to go outside. Be prepared for the odd puddle! Puppy school and ongoing training are an absolute must for her to make up the important grounding she has missed.
CUTE QUIRKS: She 'talks' back (whines) when she is with her person!
HOME ESSENTIALS:
*Stability: A dog experienced home is essential, where someone is around for most of the day on a permanent basis (not just through Covid 19) or can take her with them when they go out.
*Time: Toula needs an owner who will put in the time to expose her to new experiences and to train and socialise her with new people as well as dogs. Structured classes where she can learn, socialise and have safe exposure are a must and 2 good walks a day are essential to keep her happy. She would love another youngish dog to play with.
*Space: Toula needs a good sized, well fenced, secure yard to run around in to burn off her playful energy, with lots of grass and interesting things for her to sniff.
*Love: Toula needs to be allowed to be inside or out as she chooses, to sleep inside at night and to be included as part of the family. She would be great with gentle children (6+) who have had a good amount of exposure to dogs throughout their childhood.
