About Missy
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Missy
BEFORE SAFE ESPERANCE: Came to us as an owner surrender.
BREED: Bullmastiff x American Staffordshire Terrier
General breed traits: Bullmastiff: originally bred as a guard dog, this breed is affectionate with family but can be standoffish with strangers. Sensitive and loving to his clan he is a powerful and courageous guardian They are independent thinkers so training and socialisation to people, places and other dogs should start young. Best as an inside dog he needs to be protected from overheating. They have low to medium energy requirements but can excel in various dog sports. He is a drooler and definitely not for novice owners.
American Staffordshire Terriers: quite high energy, playful, affectionate and intelligent but do require training as they can be headstrong. They are very social with adults and children and are extremely loyal but can suffer from separation anxiety if left for long periods. Their sociability with dogs is a facet that needs work from an early age.
ASSETS: Shy, affectionate, laidback, obedient, submissive and very sweet! She's a bit of a shy girl who takes her time to be comfortable with new people. She has a beautiful nature and is very well mannered.
FAVOURITE THINGS: She loves to go out for walks and to be near her human. She's very much a one-person dog and suffers with anxiety when left alone.
ENDEARING FEATURES: Her devotion. She will be a perfect dog for someone who wants a constant companion and has plenty of time and energy to give her.
OTHER ANIMALS: Missy is very cautious of new dogs initially but is better once she knows that they are friendly and mean her no harm. She has been cat tested and is very unsure of them, choosing to back off and avoid contact, we therefore feel that she could probably live with a cat with slow, careful introduction and supervision.
GENERAL INFO: Missy walks well on her lead and knows a few commands. She is housetrained and will bark to get attention and when she hears strange noises. Missy is quite an anxious girl and has been taking anti-anxiety medication since coming into our care which is helping to control her stress levels while she settles into a new life and routine. Due to her anxiety she can be destructive when left alone so her new owner will need to be committed to spending a lot of time with her and working with her on her anxieties. We would recommend that Missy continues her medication while transitioning to a new home and possibly for some time after.
HOME ESSENTIALS:
*Stability: A home where someone is there for most of the day on a permanent basis (not just through Covid 19) or can take her with them when they go out, as she struggles being left alone. She needs someone who will make the time to continue to train her and take her for classes where she can socialize and learn new things in a steady, safe and controlled environment. Missy lacks confidence due to her background and would cope so much better with positive training to give her the foundation that she has lacked.
*Time: Missy will need daily exercise. A good walk at least twice a day will help her to release stress, making it easier for her to relax and chill.
*Space: Missy needs a well fenced, secure yard with some grass and interesting things for her to sniff - she loves to sniff!
*Love: Missy needs to be allowed to be inside or out as she chooses, to sleep inside at night and to be included as part of the family. She would be best as an only dog due to her cautiousness around other dogs. She could live with dog-savvy, gentle children over 10 years old.
If Missy sounds like the perfect girl for you, please send an enquiry and we'll be in touch soon.
