About Mattel
Mattel or Matty
Staffy x Heeler x bull arab we think but she only weighs 22 kilos
Mattel is a very happy girl and came to us shortly after being a mum of 12 pups! Ever since we’ve been fostering Mattel, her tail has not stopped wagging so we think she now loves her single life ?
Mattel is toilet trained and has had no accidents inside. During her stay with use, she has spent time inside and outside during the day and seems better inside as she loves being around humans. When we’ve gone out and left Mattel inside on her own, she has not shown any signs of destructive behavior - she’ll mainly just sit on her bed with her chew toy, listening to the radio ?
When meeting new people, she can sometimes be quite timid and apprehensive with her tail between her legs but it only takes a few minutes before she relaxes and is comfortable with new people giving them plenty of licks.
Overall we think she’ll be a great family dog as she has a great mix of being quite active at times (loves playing fetch) whilst she is also quite content to lay in her bed during the day close by foster mum or dad around the house.
FOOD
Mattel has been eating twice a day and we’ve also been leaving out a bowl of dry food (about two cups) which she’ll graze on during the day. Morning and night has been a mix of dry and wet food and will need to mix the dry food well with the wet food, as she’s very clever at sniffing and eating and only the wet food.
Around the kitchen she has been pretty well behaved and won’t jump up on the counter, however if you do leave something right on the edge, she’ll certainly sniff it out and look lovingly at
TOILETING
Mattel has had no accidents inside so does appear to be toilet trained. Outside, it took her a couple of days and then she’s been pretty consistent about where she goes to the toilet in a particular area in the backyard.
SLEEPING
Mattel has slept inside during the night in the hallway on her bed and we’ve had no issues at all. Mattel has been sleeping through the night enjoying her sleep. She’s usually woken up in the morning around 6/7am when her foster dad gets ready for work or if she’s woken up herself she’ll try and sneak into a bedroom
EXERCISE/PLAY
Mattel is quite an active girl and will need at least one walk during the day. She’s been ok on the lead however does pull at times and doesn’t know any commands yet such as stay or sit when crossing roads, so ongoing training is required.
Whilst she has been well behaved when walking, she will pull and bark when she see’s other dogs approaching or passing by on the other side of the street.
When she arrived we did have her in care with another dog and they got on like a house on fire but she is now dog reactive when meeting
We temp tested her with a very submissive dog a few days ago and we were able with very careful introductions were able to sit calmly within a few feet but this took some time and experienced work
I feel if Matty was put into the right home she could become dog social but this would take time and careful experienced training
During the day she loves playing fetch and she’ll let you know when she wants to play by picking up her ball and nudging you with it wherever you are. She hasn’t quite learnt to drop the ball yet!
TRAVELLING
Mattel has been in the car on a few occasions and does takes some encouragement to get in the car by using either her favourite toy or even having to pick her up. Once inside on the backseat, she’s been ok either sitting and looking out the window or lying on the back seat.
