About Chip ~ 1yr Old Maltese X (On Trial 30/09/21)
NOTE: PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE PROFILE BEFORE ENQUIRING. Any enquiries who have not read and understood Chips specific needs. Replies will not be given to those who have not understood or have disregarded the requirements in the profile . This tells us that you will not thoroughly understand and manage his condition for the rest of his life.
Chip is a 1yr old Maltese x Toy Poodle with Megaoesophagus- a congenital condition. He also has Oesophagitis (a secondary condition of Megaoesophagus)
This condition is for LIFE and needs to be managed. Chips oesophagus is unable to push the food through to his stomach on its own, causing regurgitation.
To help manage this condition Chip is on medication twice a day, both liquid and tablets (breakfast and dinner). This is purchased monthly
He needs to sit upright to eat (in a Bailey Chair) with 20 minutes upright time after each meal. A small burp during his meal is sometimes needed.
Chippie needs to have the same meal without normal dog treats and Under no circumstance is he to eat like a " normal" dog, even if his regurgitation is minimal on some days.
Aspiration pneumonia is a side effect of this condition, so any new adopter needs to be vigilant and watch for any signs or symptoms (nasal discharge, coughing, rapid resting breathing).
The perfect home for this boy will need to have funds for his ongoing medication ( approx. $150 per month) , maintain a 6 to 8 week grooming schedule, have funds for potential urgent vet trips.
They will need to be home more often than not to keep him company, no small children and someone quick enough to catch him when he thinks running from you is a game.
He has very sharp teeth and can potentially scratch soft skin, this boy is a 100% fluffy trip hazard.
This gorgeous boy is full of energy, loves to talk to you in his cheeky manner. He makes you take a break from life when talking to him and brushing him for 20 minutes after his meal while in his chair. He has been caravanning and loved it, although does vomit so puppy pads or floor coverings are a must.
In a nutshell , don't apply if ...
* you are precious about your carpets
* you work full time 5 days a week
* you don't have a family support network
* you holiday or cruise alot and don't plan on taking him in your suitcase
* you have small children
* you have other big dogs , or senior ones. He has too much energy for a senior
Please contact us if you
* are financially capable of caring for this cutie
* love being spoken back to (I think he swears at you some days)
* can chase a ball of fluff, in and around your house if needed
* love to take him on holidays with you
* have thought about caring for him for the next 10 + years
* are happy to have dinner dates and a breakfast buddy for the next 10+ years
Chip is not available for immediate adoption as a course of meetings will take place prior to a trial period to ensure you fully understand the responsibilities evolved.
