About Barney
Arriving into care with his six siblings (also adoptable) Barney is the smallest and most sugary sweet of the bunch! Most often found in the arms of anyone willing, Barney is a bit of a heart stealer. We believe he will do best with a family looking for a little sidekick, someone who will include him in their daily activities.
Please make sure you read the following carefully and meet the criteria before applying:
Whilst Barney's breed is unknown, our best guess is a mix of staffy and some kind of working breed, like kelpie. We believe he will grow to be a medium-sized dog, around the 25+kg mark but of course, this is a guess and any potential new families will need to be comfortable with a bit of a mystery.
- Barney is looking for a home with another confident, friendly doggy pal. Size and breed, don’t matter so much but any new friend will need to be able to comfortably tolerate a bit of wrestling and puppy antics. Barney is best suited to children 10 and up.
- Adoptive families must understand that Barney needs daily training and careful socialisation. Enrolling in ‘force-free' puppy school is a must as is practicing good habits so Barney grows up to be a good canine citizen.
- Barney must have access inside always, a dog door or similar is a must.
- Mental enrichment and exercise! Being a mix of high energy breeds means a lifetime commitment to daily exercise and enrichment. Whilst Barney is still a baby it is important to understand his growing body can’t yet walk long distances nor is he suited to just hanging out at the dog park where they might get overwhelmed or learn inappropriate habits from unknown dogs. That is why mental enrichment is so important, getting creative with training, food puzzles and brain games is essential to having a happy, healthy pup. In the future, however, it’s important to note that Barney will likely need a fair amount of exercise, enrolling Barney into a sport or a nose works class might be ideal.
- Adoptive families will need to have a plan to bring Barney into their home, as Barney has always been surrounded by his siblings, he will need lots of company and assurance to make sure he feels safe and loved. This means being in an environment where he is not left alone for long periods of time. Setting him up for success is super important.
* When applying please make sure to give as much detail as possible, other pets, family members, lifestyle, how often a new pup would be alone, where they will have access, etc.
Please note we do not adopt interstate, except for the ACT.
Medical notes
Barney will be desexed at a later date on the recommendation of our vet. This is included in the adoption fee.
