About Buddy
Arriving into care with his six siblings (also adoptable) Buddy is a gentle guy, a totally lovable boy. Buddy is the first to front up for pats and attention. He is socialised with different sights, sounds, and people and his ideal family will be one who loves to love! He will need a home with a family who won’t tire of his need for attention and will include him in their daily outings. A trip to the cafe, a romp on the beach, endless kisses and compliments, Buddy is going to be…well someone’s Best Bud.
Please make sure you read the following carefully and meet the criteria before applying:
Whilst Buddy's breed is unknown, our best guess is a mix of staffy and some kind of working breed, like kelpie. We believe he will grow to be a medium-sized dog, around the 25+kg mark but of course, this is a guess and any potential new families will need to be comfortable with a bit of a mystery.
- BUDDY IS LOOKING FOR A HOME WITH ANOTHER CONFIDENT, FRIENDLY DOGGY PAL. Size and breed, don’t matter so much but any new friend will need to be able to comfortably tolerate a bit of wrestling and puppy antics. Buddy is best suited to children 10 and up.
- Adoptive families must understand that Buddy needs daily training and careful socialisation. Enrolling in ‘force-free' puppy school is a must as is practicing good habits so Buddy grows up to be a good canine citizen.
- Buddy must have access inside always, a dog door or similar is a must.
- Mental enrichment and exercise! Being a mix of high energy breeds means a lifetime commitment to daily exercise and enrichment. Whilst Buddy is still a baby it is important to understand her growing body can’t yet walk long distances nor is he suited to just hanging out at the dog park where they might get overwhelmed or learn inappropriate habits from unknown dogs. That is why mental enrichment is so important, getting creative with training, food puzzles and brain games is essential to having a happy, healthy pup. In the future, however, it’s important to note that Buddy will likely need a fair amount of exercise, enrolling Buddy into a sport or a nose works class might be ideal.
- Adoptive families will need to have a plan to bring Buddy into their home, as Buddy has always been surrounded by his siblings, he will need lots of company and assurance to make sure he feels safe and loved. This means being in an environment where he is not left alone for long periods of time. Setting him up for success is super important.
* When applying please make sure to give as much detail as possible, other pets, family members, lifestyle, how often a new pup would be alone, where they will have access, etc.
* Please note we do not rehome interstate except to the ACT.
Medical notes
Will be desexed at vet's recommendation due to potential size of dog
