About Doug
Doug is the big kahuna!
The biggest of the bunch, Doug has so much character! He’s a hoot and isn’t afraid to remind his siblings that he is indeed large and in charge. Socialised with different sights, sounds, and people, Doug is going to need a family with some doggy experience who can help him learn to use his brain over his braun, he’s a good boy with an awesome personality and is going to without a doubt be someone’s best friend the minute those adoption papers are signed.
Doug is best suited to children 10 and up.
Whilst Doug's breed is unknown, our best guess is a mix of staffy and some kind of working breed, like kelpie. We believe he will grow to be a medium-sized dog, around the 25+kg mark but of course, this is a guess and any potential new families will need to be comfortable with a bit of a mystery.
- DOUG IS LOOKING FOR A HOME WITH ANOTHER CANINE FAMILY MEMBER. Size and breed, don’t matter so much but any new friend will need to be able to comfortably tolerate a bit of wrestling and puppy antics.
- Adoptive families must understand that Doug needs daily training and careful socialisation. Enrolling in a ‘force-free' puppy school is a must as is practicing good habits so Doug grows up to be a good canine citizen.
- Doug must have access inside always, a dog door or similar is a must.
- Mental enrichment and exercise! Being a mix of high energy breeds means a lifetime commitment to daily exercise and enrichment. Whilst Doug is still a baby it is important to understand his growing body can’t yet walk long distances nor is he suited to just hanging out at the dog park where they might get overwhelmed or learn inappropriate habits from unknown dogs. That is why mental enrichment is so important, getting creative with training, food puzzles and brain games is essential to having a happy, healthy pup. In the future, however, it’s important to note that Doug will likely need a fair amount of exercise, enrolling Doug into a sport or a nose-works class might be ideal.
- Adoptive families will need to have a plan to bring Doug into their home, as Doug has always been surrounded by his siblings, he will need lots of company and assurance to make sure he feels safe and loved. This means being in an environment where he is not left alone for long periods of time. Setting him up for success is super important.
