About Finn
Its time for Finn to find his family ❤
We have supplied a lot of information based on weeks of assessment so please do take the time to read everything before applying.
Finn as you know is a super handsome and friendly gentle giant.
An Irish Wolfhound Cross, he is about 18 months old.
He is currently in care with 3 females - one medium sized, one small old lady and a 3 legged deaf puppy. After careful introductions he just loves them all.
However, his reaction to meeting other dogs has been mixed depending on their size and temperament.
For this reason, Finn would be best suited to being an only dog or as a brother to a relaxed, non-reactive, desexed female.
Whilst he is a laid-back chap who is not aggressive, he really does not appreciate growling or dominant dogs and is more than prepared to give back what is dished out. Although he doesn't start the anti-social behaviour, he will retaliate when challenged.
If you have a resident dog that is needy or attention seeking, Finn really is not the dog for you. He is a really affectionate lad who will compete for your attention.
Similarly, if your resident dog has behaviours that drive you crazy, such as nuisance barking, chewing etc, Finn is not the dog for you, as he is easily influenced and very likely to mimic the behaviour.
Finn's reaction to cats has been inconsistent and being a large, fast moving prey driven mixed breed, we deem Finn not suitable with cats, livestock or pocket pets.
He has met several young children and was happy to interact them for a short time before losing interest.
Finn's tail can hit like a whip when he wags it, which is most of the time and being so tall, small children's faces would be at the perfect height to get 'wag-smacked' by his very strong enthusiastic tail.
Finn CANNOT be fed bones in the presence of another dog - no exceptions. Normal feeding and treats are fine - just not bones!
Finn has not attempted to jump 4ft (1.2m) fences at his Foster Carer's.
He rarely barks and only does when there is something, he believes needs your attention (person in the yard, car at the gates etc) but be prepared - his bark is impressive!
Finn walks beautifully on a lead either with a collar or harness.
Finn is not very comfortable when confronted with heights (e.g., bridges) but exposed regularly his carer believes his confidence in this area would improve quickly.
He is not destructive and does not dig.
Finn is great around a ride-on lawn mower, tractor and the vacuum cleaner.
Finn has lovely door manners and waits (most times) to be invited inside or out.
He lays quietly on the kitchen floor during meal preparation and does not bench-surf.
Finn is respectful and does not approach humans who are eating.
Finn stands 77cm tall at the shoulder and is approximately 1.3 meters nose to tail tip.
Finn weighs 53kg and still needs to gain a bit more to be at his ideal weight.
Being a hound of mixed breeding, it is difficult to put weight on his frame - This will take time.
Finn requires a large vehicle to be transported in, being very tall, very long and quite broad, Finn finds it difficult to get comfortable or lay down on the back seat of a dual cab ute.
He spends the majority of the trip with his head out the window trying to maintain his footing on the seat. He enjoys the wind on his face and drools his pleasure over the windows, interior and exterior of the vehicle.
Finn is a medium shedder and a moderate drooler with a medium to low energy level.
He does need space to run and stretch his very long legs though.
