About Rusty
The wonderful and fun loving Rusty is looking for a new home on behalf of another organisation. He’s a Kelpie x Staffy and nearly 2 years old.
Rusty is a gorgeous boy, but he is working through some issues that means he will need to go to a very select home with an experienced owner. He developed a fear of strangers at a young age, and as a result has trouble trusting new people.
Rusty has been staying with a foster carer (who is also a trainer) for the last 5 months. He has come a long way and his confidence has improved dramatically in that time, but the work with him will need to continue. The foster carer is willing to help with continued training for the successful applicant.
Rusty gets along with most other dogs, loves to run, play (especially with his favourite yellow ball), and is a big smooch when he gets to know you. Living with a dog trainer, Rusty now has a very strong obedience foundation. He’s also been attending group obedience classes, which he excels in.
His new home must haves include:
- Experienced dog owner/s who are proficient in reading dog body language
- Owners willing to continue his training and socialisation
- Someone that understands he’s mostly Kelpie and will therefore give him the appropriate amount of exercise and stimulation. He LOVES to run, play ball and frisbee!
- An active home that will take him to new places. He loves nothing more than going to the beach or on a hike with his people.
- Owners that will give appropriate boundaries as he is still quite puppy like.
- An empathetic person that understands when some situations are uncomfortable for him.
- Owner/s that will be able to spend a lot of time with him. He is not the kind of dog to be left alone in the backyard all day with nothing to do.
- No children
- Ideally you would also have another well balanced dog that he can gain confidence from. He learns well from other dogs, and also loves a good play session.
