About Soya
Soya
Staghound x
Soya is a sweet young girl with lots of love to give. She arrived into foster care quite nervous and very skinny but she’s made progress in leaps and bounds. She is a social girl who likes playing with the resident dogs - zoomies, tug o war (that’s her favourite) or destroy the soft toy
Personality
So is a fairly active girl who enjoys playing and running around. She will sit quietly near you and follow you around so enjoys her humans company. She currently has very few manners so we have been working with her and currently has mastered to sit for a treat and for her meals. She is going to need ongoing training but with that she will make a lovely companion with time and perseverance
Exercise and walking
She requires daily walks to keep her stimulated and social. She maybe destructive if not well stimulated. She is walking well in a harness with a bit of zig zagging and pulling but does settle after a while. She can get quite excited when she sees another dog and can bounce around and bark. Soya has been friendly to other dogs having a good sniff with lots of tail wags. She has had some time off the lead at an enclosed oval and is showing pretty good recall so far. Soya is a bit of a water baby too and loves to splash around in a shell with water when it’s hot.
Food
She is food obsessed and is going to need some work in this department. Being quite malnourished she is always looking for food and will steal anything she can get her paws on. Being a tall girl she can easily reach most things on the bench so don’t leave your Sunday roast out unsupervised because as soon as you turn your back she will be into it. She has also learnt to open cupboard doors so pantry food isn’t safe either. She may need some special training regarding this. She loves to chew things too being a pup so lots of chew toys, cow hooves, roo tails will keep her busy. She is currently being fed twice a day but has pilled on the weight since she has been in foster care due to all the extra calories she has consumed. When she steals stuff she is put outside and told no. She needs ongoing reinforcements with this. Her jumping up is slowly improving from when she first arrived
Sleep
Currently sleeping inside on an old couch, she uses the doggy door most nights but has had the odd accident inside, this is improving with time. She sleeps soundly most of the night and is quite inside with minimal barking. She doesn’t like being left outside and will bark and scratch but does settle.
Car trips
She dislikes getting in the car and currently needs lifting into the car but once in, is settled and travels well.
Her forever home should be a home where someone is around a lot, she would love another male playmate to keep her entertained, a family that are committed to ongoing training and socialisation. She must be given lots of patients, love and attention. Unfortunately it’s not her fault she hasn’t been trained properly but with perseverance this girl will be a little beauty and a great companion. She is a true little sweetheart
