About Max 🐾 7yo, Cocker Spaniel (eval inq 29/1/21)
Max 🐾 7 year old, purebred Cocker Spaniel. 🐶 For a dog who has come from such a neglected background, Max has a lot of love to give. For the past 7 years, Maximus has been living in a backyard with little human contact or socialisation with other dogs or animals. When he was rescued, his coat looked like a mop.
Consequently, he is learning the ropes when it comes to trusting human touch - he can bite without inhibition and without warning - even in the midst of wagging his tail. Therefore, he's not suitable for a family with young children or a first-time dog owner.
However, once Max bonds with a person, he is generous with his affections and will head butt for attention and roll over for a belly scratch... but be cautious, it takes about 2 weeks of giving him space to feel comfortable...don’t over handle him until both he and you feel safe.
For the most part he is delightful with other dogs and cats🐱 and seeks out their company to play, but he does have a tendency to resource guard the human he has bonded with. He uses toys to hold in his mouth for self-soothing and will offer them up for play (he loves fetch and tug) but sometimes guards his toys if there is another dog in the vicinity.
Max understands and obeys basic commands as long as they are delivered with kindness and a reward. He has good leash manners and recall when allowed off leash.
All in all, Max is a sweetheart and will be suited to a kind and gentle person who is willing to let Max set his own pace when it comes to being handled and petted. Once he has let his guard down, his new human will have the most loving and loyal friend ❤️
Max is in foster care in Lake Macquarie, NSW. He is available for adoption within NSW. His adoption fee is $500 and he is desexed, vaccinated, vet checked, treated for fleas and worms, and microchipped.
