About π Gracie - Special Needs π
Say hello to our our wobbly girl Gracie π
When Gracie came in as a kitten she was quiet, withdrawn, lethargic and just not right. A vet visit failed to find anything, and later that night we realised she is also deaf. She continued to go downhill and had a series of further vet visits which loosely diagnosed Cerebella Hypoplasia, but she was getting worse; her body was shutting down.
* Please note Gracie's pupils appear dilated in all her pics as this is her standard appearance, her minor brain damage seems to have blocked their ability to constrict. We don't believe her vision to be affected by this.
Finally our vet suggested the kindest thing to do would be to euthanise but if we were willing, there was one thing we could try - medication for toxoplasmosis. It had a really slim chance of working but of course we had to give it a go!
Well a miracle happened.... 24hrs after her first dose Gracie had improved by 50% and by her 2nd dose she was almost back to looking and behaving like a normal kitten! Except for one thing, it had left Gracie with a harmless but very cute wobbliness and over-exaggerated in everything she does π
She's a darling little thing who's been very much loved in foster care, but is ready for her own home with a special human who'll love her for who she is. She had blood tests prior to being desexed which were clear of any further issues and she came out of the surgery fine, so we're confident she's just as healthy as any other kitty, just special in her own little way <3
Gracie would suit a family with teenagers who understand they canβt pick her up, and who won't make fun of her deafness or wobbliness. Someone who is home more often than not would also be perfect for her. She enjoys watching the foster cats play but does enjoy her own space. She would need a little crate set up in the main living area so she has a place to go and rest where she feels safe and won't be bothered, she has this in foster care and seems to really appreciate her the privacy.
If you're looking for a special needs kitty to share your heart and home with, come and meet Gracie, we're sure you'll fall instantly in love π

About Sunny Days:
Sunny Days Rescue & Rehab is a registered charity, foster care network and private shelter, focusing on the rescue, rehab and rehoming of βtrue strayβ cats - cats who've never had experience with humans or a human home.
The overall objective of our organisation is to:
π successfully physically and psychologically rehabilitate terrified cats and find them homes which understand their needs and are compassionate to their history,
π remove complete stray cat colonies from the community and ensure they will never breed again or be back on the street again,
π provide an example of the potential to rehab unsocialised cats to other organisations who may not have understood or attempted to achieve that potential before,
π educate the community on how many stray cats are hiding in the dark corners of community trying to survive and that desexing is the only way to begin to lessen these numbers and the resulting suffering,
π provide an opportunity for volunteers to learn animal husbandry and handling skills to a high level which may help them in their future work in animal welfare and as pet owners,
π and provide an opportunity for compassionate people to come together and pool their skills for the betterment of a demographic of animal that is mostly ignored and misunderstood despite us humans being their source and the reason they even exist.
Please support us in our important work by clicking the pink DONATE button on this page. Thankyou! π
