About Zeke ~ 18mo Staffy (On Trial 08/02/21)
The many faces of a Staffy..... Boof head, big smile, drooly kisses, mouthy play. Zeke epitomises all the things that make people fall in love with a Staffy. He adores his people and is full of puppy energy. Meet the amazing Zeke, this handsome fellow is an 18month old Staffy boy looking for his forever home.
Zeke is an incredibly respectful dog inside his home. He thankfully shows no signs of separation anxiety, common to Staffy breeds and just chills on the verandah when his dad goes out. That being said, his dad is retired and is home with Zeke most of the time. He is a beautiful, chunky dog in great health with all vet work done.
Zeke is a regretful rehome. He was adopted as an adolescent, but his needs are more than what his current loving owner can provide for him. It appears Zeke has missed out on some crucial socialisation time as a young pup before coming to DRN. On lead he becomes very fixated with other dogs in his presence. The intensity of his bark and exuberance is mostly "I want to go say hi", but causes other dogs and owners to be a bit wary, and rightly so. When Zeke is with dogs of equal strength and size off lead, he can play quite happily, however, he hasn't learnt the social cues when the other dogs have had enough and needs to learn when it's time for calm and when to stop.
For those reasons, Zeke is not a dog who can be taken to dog beaches, off lead dog parks and high traffic dog areas at this point in time. The home we seek for him must be experienced with his breed and temperament and must commit to training and socialisation strategies to help him live a happy and well balanced life. A large yard would be great for him to burn energy at home and if he had someone to take him for an early morning run to burn off some energy, he would think that was pretty cool too. He could happily be an only dog or may be suitable to live with a large female who will tell him when enough is enough. He is also pretty strong, so his new owners will need to be too.
We will make no apologies for being very specific about the home we choose for Zeke. We want him and his new owners to succeed and for this to be his last and forever home. The responsibility and consistent effort in training will be rewarded with the most loyal buddy for life.
