About Terrific Ty
What a transformation this 2 year old boy has gone through since being rescued!
Ty arrived into care as a scared little thing. He was unsure of everything and didn’t even want to come out of the carrier. His fur was bristly, sparse and dirty. He wasn’t even toilet trained, probably because he’d never seen a litter tray before. But as soon as he understood that he was safe, he immediately became very affectionate, rubbing his cheeks on his foster carer and purring endlessly within the hour! However, as he still wasn’t fully trusting the new person, he wagged his tail nervously and scratched when being picked up.
A week after, Ty has learnt to use his litter box perfectly and to sit for his bowl (although he meows as if to say “yeah, yeah, now hurry up and give me my food!”). He is still wary of unfamiliar sounds and people, running into hiding, but all he needs to relax is his person nearby, reassuring him that everything is fine and he will soon approach the guests’ hands for pats. He still doesn’t enjoy being picked up and held, but he tolerates it for a few seconds now. A bit of conditioning over time will make him more comfortable with this as well.
He is very well mannered - he doesn’t jump up on the kitchen bench or table when human food is being prepared, but he’s nearby in case he can get a taste of dinner. He sleeps alone and has never made a mess when left alone, even for long hours when his person is at work. However, he demands attention when you come back: a couple of minutes of scratches would do and then he goes back to doing what he does best: sleeping.
Ty loves being brushed and his fur has become full and soft and you can appreciate it completely when he curls up next to you for a belly rub. You can’t resist stroking that white fluffy belly! But cuddles must be on Ty’s terms otherwise he becomes nervous and might scratch or bite. Just look out for how the tail is moving and you can easily understand when you’re pushing the limits. He’s relaxing more and more every day with his carer so we believe he will stop reacting once he’s fully confident in his family’s unconditional love.
Ty would suit a quiet home with no children. He is currently not living with other animals, so slow introductions would be needed if his new home had a dog or cat friend. If you’re looking for a sweet, calm and independent cat, Ty is the furball for you.
