About Spider
Spider lives in the moment and finds joy in every second of the day. Spider will make you feel grateful for the simple things in life with his puppy-like enthusiasm for the world around him.
Spider will never miss an opportunity to be involved in what his humans are doing. Whether you’re gardening in the backyard, cooking in the kitchen or watching TV on the couch, Spider will be there, sticking his nose into everyone’s business. However his confidence falters slightly if he must go in the car – he copes far better with another dog for company on car journeys. But Spider doesn’t let this fear get in the way of his determination to be included and will happily tackle this fear in exchange for some quality time with his humans.
When he has to keep himself entertained, Spider can be found snoozing on his bed, or collecting items from around the house to gather on his bed. He will never destroy them, simply preferring to create a nest of precious items like a magpie. He can get a little protective of his collection. Spider also gets startled if woken from a slumber, showing sleep startle tendencies, which is easily managed.
He is very loyal, affectionate and loves nothing more than his daily walks – two at least will help keep him happy. Spider might like to live with another large dog to keep him company.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, they can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour. Yes, they may "grow out" of it after a few weeks in their new home, but why put the dog through that stress to ultimately live all day alone, while everyone is at work? As a result we do not rehome dogs into households where they are left on their own for more than 4 hours per day, without either people or another dog for company.
During the COVID crisis, not all of our rescued Greyhounds will have the usual socialisation with other dogs so we may advise to use a muzzle in some situations until the dog is fully socialised.

Following your initial application, we conduct a home check. Our dogs are placed on a two week trial. The adoption fee is paid at time of placement and reimbursed if the trial is unsuccessful.
After the trial period is deemed successful, the adoption process is finalised.
