About 🐶🐾 Dougie McDougington 🐾🐶
Sadly, Dougie has repeatedly been let down by applicants since originally being listed and we are once again looking for his perfect forever home.
Dougie's curse is that he's just too cute. He is so cute, people forget he is a dog, who does dog stuff and likes to be treated like any other dog.
Of course we could have rehomed Dougie a number of times to well meaning, but unsuitable homes, we could have compromised on providing Dougie with his absolute best life by placing him as an only dog, despite his absolute love of having doggo siblings, but we have not and we will not. We know that the perfect, committed, loving home with realistic expectations and an understanding of what Dougie needs is out there and we are determined to find them!
We would like to point out that none of the false starts over the last month have been as a result of anything Dougie has done or hasn't done, he has been the goodest boy and can't understand why people keep letting him down.
PLEASE NOTE: You must currently have at least one friendly, playful dog; who you know enjoys the company of and playing with other dogs, to be eligible to apply to adopt Dougie.
Dougie (Dougle Bug, Douglas, Dougie the Pugie) is a cheeky Pug x Cavalier with a big personality. He’s got two modes - flat out leaping and playing with his foster family and snuggling in as close as he can get to humans and other dogs alike.
Douglas knows basic commands but, he’s a puppy, so play time always comes first for him. He loves his furry foster siblings, and plays with them at every chance he gets, so a home with another dog who is playful but could be a role model is essential.
He’s toilet trained, has learnt to use a doggy door, walks well on a lead but has zero road sense. While he would much prefer to sleep on your bed, he is slowly getting used to sleeping separate from his humans at night. He has previously lived with cats, but he tends to get excited and chase - did we mention he’s a puppy?! We don't feel it would be fair to subject resident cats to his attentions, unless they are absolutely doggo mad.
Dougie is not suited to a home with young children; he needs the stability and routine of an adult home. Dougie has been let down by humans so many times in his short life and while we understand that he has the most adorable squishy face, we need you to be aware that taking on a puppy is a full time and life long commitment - Dougie deserves nothing but the best and has so much love to give.
While we realise that Dougie's adoption fee is considerably higher than average this is not negotiable and will be used to rehabilitate other animals in need. Dogs like Dougie are routinely bought from backyard breeders for far more than his adoption fee, usually with no vet work or training (as he was) and the reality is, without his adoption fee we will not be able to continue rescuing animals in need.
Dougie is in care in Trafalgar and applicants must be willing and able to visit him in his foster home, as we as having his foster mum visit their home. Please take this into account before applying.
ONLY ENQUIRIES WITH A COMPLETED ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE WILL RECEIVE A RESPONSE - http://squishiesrescue.org.au/adoption-application/application-flat-faced-dog/
