About Harper ~ 9 m/o Kelpie x (On Trial 30/12/20)
Meet the gorgeous Harper! This girl is the definition of a bitser but the general gist is Kelpie, Ridgeback and Shepherd. Harper is affectionate, smart, playful, submissive and loyal, and is a great all-rounder being dog, cat, and kid friendly!
This gal isn't petite but could do with filling out a little more as she grows but currently, she's weighing in at 23kg. She isn't quite aware of her size, especially during witching hour but luckily she is very agile so she springs from one side of the house to the other with no casualties!
Harper is fantastic with other animals although she has had a very tolerant cat friend in the past so she doesn't understand that some cats like their boundaries. She would love a young playful cat who is happy to play chasies with her and another dog to keep her company in her new home. Harper has lived with multiple other dogs and has lived with children 5 years and over.
Harper is a very special girl and will need an understanding home while she settles into her new life. Harper has had a somewhat stressful start to life and as a result, she has developed separation anxiety so will ideally need a home where her owners are home more often than not, whether that's someone newly retired or someone who works from home. We are also willing to work with an adopter who works part-time and is willing to work with a trainer to make sure Harper is happy and stress-free.
Harper is a typical teenage puppy who chews and gets into mischief so she will need lots of mental stimulation and enrichment. She needs two walks a day and she loves bones and chew toys. Harper is crate trained, which helps a lot with her anxiety and she sleeps and eats in her crate.
Some non-negotiables for Harper's forever home are:
- Harper needs to sleep inside in her crate at night – she would love for her crate to be in your bedroom!
- She definitely needs to go to a home with another dog – she can fit in with a confident dog or a submissive dog, a male dog or a female dog but he would really not be suited to being an only dog.
- Harper finds comfort in being on the lounge so she will need to be invited onto the lounge with her family as well as the bed sometimes.
- Full-time workers aren't a good idea for this girl unless you have very understanding neighbours 🙈
- She is going to need lots of exercise, so someone committed to a walking routine or teaching her fetch is a must. This lady needs plenty of mental and physical stimulation.
- Finally, she must have an owner who is sensitive to her past and not discipline her with objects, hands or by yelling – she responds really well to distraction and positive reinforcement.
