About Elly
Elly is a tiny shih tzu who is afraid of people and needs a kind and gentle person who will teach her that not all people are bad. She likes other dogs, never barks and never snaps. . . . After we rescued elly from the pound, her vet check revealed that she needed surgery to repair a loose kneecap on her left, rear leg. Elly must have been in pain all her life. This could be one reason why she is so timid. She had her knee operation on 26/7/10. It was very successful and the vet said she should be able to walk on it normally. She is walking on it now but still lifts it when she runs. This should normalise in time. . . . The vet originally thought she might need surgery on her other rear kneecap too but has decided now that it isn't necessary. Elly is using that leg normally. . . . Elly is showing progress. Now she wags her tail like crazy when her foster carer comes home, but then runs away when she comes close. When you hold elly on your lap she isn't relaxed, but if you sit her on the lounge next to you she is more relaxed and will raise her leg for a belly rub. We believe that in time she will learn to trust people more. . . . Elly is mostly shih tzu but may have some poodle in her which would explain the slight curl in her pretty black and white coat. She doesn't shed and so will require regular bathing and clipping. . . Elly enjoys the company of other dogs and likes to play with them. She likes to spend time outside but needs to spend lots of time inside with people. She is not suited to a home with children because she needs a calm environment. She is very well housetrained and comes to get you when she needs to go out. She will need to have a secure yard with no gaps as she is very small and can get out through small holes. She loves her food and eats anything. . . . If elly should need any further treatment for her back knees in the future we will pay for it to be done at our vet in warners bay. Therefore, elly's permanent home will need to be in within driving distance of our vet (ie: newcastle, hunter valley, port stephens, lake macquarie, central coast) just in case she needs to come back to our vet. . . . Elly has made a great physical recovery. Now she needs a special individual or couple who can be patient and spend time with her while she slowly comes to understand that no one is going to hurt her. She is such a sweet and pretty little girl; it will be very rewarding to watch her blossom into a loving, loyal and happy dog. . . . *** please see lots more photos of elly and some of our other pets at http://tinyurl.
