Alexis

Look into those big green eyes…. Alexis is a sweet girl and a big character who is looking for a special family - she has had very limited exposure to the world and needs a lot of guidance. Alexis has come from a remote farming environment and the outside world is totally new to her. She will need to go to a dog-experienced family who can patiently help her to adjust. Alexis has a fantastic, fun personality; she is extremely engaged with the people around her, highly intelligent and very affectionate. In time, we have no doubt she will grow into an outstanding companion. Once she gets to know and trust you she is quite needy, she wants to lean up against you, offering endless licks and encouraging tail wags to keep those ear scratches coming. We think Alexis could make a good family dog, but with respectful, older children who can take things slowly with her. She has never walked on a lead and is quite overwhelmed by traffic and lots of people, it will take her time to get used to these things. A family who can give her plenty of room to run at the beach or river would be ideal. She’s used to being home during the day while her people are out, but she has never been alone and we don’t think she’ll cope very well with this. She was surrendered along with another dog and has made friends with her foster fur-siblings so we strongly recommend re-homing her with another friendly, submissive dog. She is used to being top of the pack and was a bit pushy with her sibling, so a dog who will quiet her down rather than razz her up will be the best fit. Alexis has been fine with well-secured chooks but we believe she would chase cats. She needs high fencing (she can clear 5 foot fencing). She settles in the car after a few minutes and currently sleeps in a safe and secure undercover pergola area. She isn’t used to being indoors but badly wants to spend time with people so she’ll gradually adjust to learning how good indoors can be.
Alexis is a perfect example of a clean slate – she is ready now for a patient and kind family to help her write her happy-ever-after story.
